Assistant Manager Nursing: Integrated School Health Programme
A Basic R425 qualification (i.e., Diploma/ degree in nursing) or equivalent qualification that allows registration with SANC as professional nurse.
A Post basic qualification with a duration of at least 1 year accredited with the SANC in the specialty relevant to PHC setting.
A Health Service Management or Nursing Administration qualification with duration of at least 01 year, accredited with SANC.
A minimum of 10 years appropriate/recognisable nursing experience after registration as Professional Nurse with the SANC in General Nursing.
At least 6 years of the period referred to above must be appropriate/ recognizable experience in the PHC setting after obtaining the 1 year post basic qualification in the relevant specialty.
At least 3 years of the period referred to above must be appropriate/ recognizable experience years in a Management level on (coordination role). Experience in school health, adolescent/youth health and immunisation campaigns (HPV experience advantageous).
Other skills/requirement: Knowledge of the application of nursing act, Public Service Regulations, Basic Condition of Employment Act, Labour Relations Act, Public Finance Management Act, Treasury Regulations, Human resource management; Leadership, organizational, decision making and problem-solving skills. Understanding the application of Batho Pele Principle. Patient’s Rights Charter and quality assurance system. Ability to communicate (verbally and written).
Good people management and presentation skills. interpersonal social mobilisation, networking and repot writing as well as Team building and Policy formulation. Computer literacy and a valid Driver’s license are essential.
Duties :
Lead and manage implementation of the Integrated School Health Programme (ISHP) across Johannesburg schools. Supervise the Provision of specialist holistic child assessments (Grades 1–8): growth, development, sensory, nutritional and psychosocial screening; ensure referrals and follow-up. Oversee adolescent & youth health services and school-based health education.
Plan, coordinate and supervise periodic HPV immunisation for Grade 4 and Grade 5 learners, including cold-chain oversight and safety reporting.
Conduct and supervise growth-defect screening and referral pathways to PHC and specialist services. Train, supervise and mentor school health nurses and support teams; engage schools, parents, DoE and stakeholders. Collect, manage and report ISHP data; ensure compliance with national policy, child protection and IPC standards.
Strong clinical assessment skills for child and adolescent health. Programme planning, monitoring and reporting. Leadership, supervision and capacity-building. Stakeholder engagement, communication and basic data analysis. Knowledge of ISHP, immunisation policy and child protection procedures.
To ensure that a comprehensive quality school health services is delivered to all Gr 1 to 8 learners in a cost effective, efficient, and equitable manner. To always ensure compliance to professional and ethical standards.
To ensure effective achievement on Ministerial Priorities, Ideal Clinic Compliance and support PHC re-engineering program implementation. Ensure management and control of human, financial and material resources. To ensure that the program functions within the allocated budget.
