    Assistant Manager Nursing PNB4 Operating Theatre

    Requirements :

    • Basic R425 qualification (i.e. diploma/degree in nursing) or equivalent qualification that allows registration with South African Nursing Council (SANC) as a Professional Nurse.
    • degree/diploma in Nursing Administration or Health Management. A post basic qualification with a duration of at least one (01) year accredited with SANC in Operative Theatre Nursing Science.
    • A minimum of ten (10) years of appropriate/recognizable experience in nursing after registration as Professional Nurse with SANC in General Nursing.
    • At least six (06) years of this period referred to above must be appropriate/recognizable experience in the specific specialty after obtaining the one (01) year post basic qualification in Operating Theatre Nursing Science (Peri Operative Nursing Science). At least three (03) years of the period referred to above must be appropriate/recognizable experience at management level.
    • Current registration with SANC. Competencies: Demonstrate an in-depth understanding of nursing legislation and related legal and ethical nursing practices and how these impacts on service delivery. Ensure clinical nursing practice by the nursing team in accordance with the scope of practice and nursing standards as determined by the health facility. Promote quality nursing care as directed by the professional scope of practice and standards as determined by the health facility.
    • Demonstrate a basic understanding of HR and financial policies and practices. Demonstrates basic computer literacy as a support tool to enhance service delivery

    Duties :

    • Demonstrate effective written and oral communication skills with patients, staff, management and other health professionals and junior colleagues. Able to manage own work time and that of junior colleagues to ensure proper nursing services are rendered.
    • Develop policies, protocols, and SOPS for the unit. Demonstrate knowledge and skills on the use of equipment used in theatre and CSSD as well as the management and control of equipment. Ensure effective management of quality nursing service and adherence to the Ideal Hospital Realization and Maintenance framework. Manage the PMDS of subordinates. Demonstrate the ability and knowledge to carry out theatre nursing procedures.
    • Display knowledge on the sterilization cycle, including, decontamination, inspection, packing, sterilization methods, equipment operation and sterile storage and distribution.
    • Must have in-depth knowledge of infection control and safety protocols to protect both patients and staff. Demonstrate the ability to manage and track inventory of sterile supplies, including surgical instruments and loan sets and management of inventory of sterile supplies, surgical instruments and consumables. Ensure optimal utilization of Nursing Personnel in the unit and effective management of human resources. Work as part of a multi-disciplinary team to ensure quality nursing care.
    • Mentoring of Operational Manager and Shift leaders in theatre. Demonstrate leadership and supervisory skills when there is a disaster (internal and external). Be able to apply and implement procedures as per scope of practice. Manage and deal with difficult stakeholders. Able to develop contacts, build and maintain a network of professional relations to enhance delivery of service. Supervision and control of all material resources. Financial management of the budget for the department.
    • Liaise with hospital management regarding complex issues. Contribute to strategic planning and service development initiatives for the department. Maintain and respect the hospital brand statement vision and mission in all interactions. Create customer friendly environment. Be flexible and able to work under pressure. Display a concern for patients, promoting, advocating and facilitating proper treatment and care and ensuring that the department adheres to the principles of Batho Pele.
