    Assistant Programme Editor - JHB North

    Description

    • The Assistant Programme Editor in conjunction with the Programme Editor, will be responsible for the editorial content of the programme. 

    Interpersonal and team relationships

    • Build, support and maintain interpersonal and team relationships to ensure stable working environment and achievement of team objectives.

    Personal development

    • Complete Individual Development Plan. Attend learning and development courses. Participate in peer and team learning initiatives.

    Budget Compliance

    • Comply with work rules, standards and methods. Take care to minimise waste. 

    Programme Performance

    • Create the programme rundown and making key editorial decisions on a   minute-by-minute basis.
    • Make key editorial judgements in conjunction with the Programme Editor, building a vital and positive relationship with the Programme Anchor and drive an agenda that interests, engages and stimulates viewers.
    • Produce high quality editorial content.
    • Provide high quality on-air guests and discussion.
    • Improve the creativity of the progamme and editorial approach.
    • Provide high quality news programming.
    • Quality review of all on-air content prior to releasing for broadcasting.
    • Subbing of content.

    Management

    • Manage the team utilizing motivational techniques, and instilling a culture of creativity and mentorship.
    • Manage staff headcount requirements for every show and ensure optimally alignment to the editorial expections.
    • Effectively manage team in line with company policies and procedures.
    • Communicate effectively on all levels.

    Editorial Leadership

    • Lead the pre-and post-production meetings, when Programme Editor is unable to.
    • Create compelling programming.
    • Create unique content.
    • Request show specific content.
    • Excellent knowledge of South African and global issues.
    • Good understanding of legal and ethical issues with regards to television broadcasts.

    Technical

    • Implement rundown changes as per the instruction of the Programme Editor.
    • Liaise on a continuing basis with the Editorial Team to secure fresh content for the broadcast.

    Requirements

    Qualifications

    • National Senior Certificate - Essential
    • Relevant Qualification in Television and/or Media Studies - Essential

    Experience

    • Relevant years of experience in Television Production and/or as an Assistant Programme Editor - Essential
    • Driver's License - Essential
    • Own Vehicle - Essential

    Computer Literacy

    • MS Office Suite - Advanced

    Functional/Technical Competencies

    • Excellent understanding of newsroom and gallery workflows.
    • Ability to lead Gallery staff.
    • Ability to work under pressure.
    • Ability to communicate effectively with all newsroom departments, ie: Production Teams; Input and Logistics
