    Associate Lecturer.3.01 (NS.09.4)

    • Applicants must satisfy the DHET eligibility requirements for nGAP appointments. Only South African citizens are eligible for appointment. Applicants should be 40 years of age or younger and must be registered for a PhD, or be eligible to register, in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Applied Bioinformatics or a closely related discipline. Further information on the nGAP initiative is available in the DHET nGAP Standard Operating Procedure.

    Brief Description        

    • Requirements: A MSc in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Applied Bioinformatics, or a related discipline, with demonstrable knowledge of structural computational biology theory and techniques. Research and teaching experience in structural biology and/or bioinformatics would be an advantage.
    • The applicant must be registered for a PhD (preferably at the post-proposal approval stage) or be eligible to register, in accordance with the DHET nGAP requirements.

    Duties:

    • The main responsibilities, upon completion of the PhD, will include undergraduate and postgraduate teaching in structural computational biology, conducting research, supervising postgraduate projects, and developing an independent research programme. Research collaborations with other researchers at Wits will be encouraged.
    • The successful candidate will also undertake administrative duties associated with these responsibilities.
    • During the initial years of appointment, the successful candidate will participate in the structured academic development programme prescribed by nGAP, including mentoring and professional development activities, while progressively developing an independent research programme and completing doctoral studies where applicable.

    Advantages:

    • Knowledge of a programming language such as Python and familiarity with Unix-like operating systems.
