    Associate Professor (P003105)

    Job description

    PURPOSE OF THE POSITION

    • An Associate Professor is expected to make significant contributions to the teaching effort the Business School. An academic at this level is also expected to play a major role in the leadership, scholarship, research and/or professional activities of the School. The successful candidate will be expected to supervise MBA and doctoral degree candidates.

    KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: 

    Teaching & Learning

    • Develop and implement effective learning environments, including face-to-face and blended approaches.
    • Utilize learning management systems (LMS) and online platforms for teaching and learning.
    • Employ effective assessment practices and reflect on student feedback.
    • Successfully supervise or co-supervise MBA mini dissertations
    • Develop and update study guides according to CTL requirements.
    • Teach on the MBA and/ or PGDip programme.

    Research, Innovation, and/or Creative Outputs

    • Engage in research activities and contribute to the School’s research efforts
    • Demonstrate relevance and intellectual creativity in research or creative outputs, as peer review confirms.
    • Publishing in accredited journal and one paper in a peer-reviewed conference proceeding.
    • Participate in collaborative international research projects.

    Academic Leadership, Management, and University Service

    • Participate in school and faculty committees, contributing to the overall academic leadership and management.
    • Provide guidance and support to students, including advising and recruitment activities.
    • Active participation in the scientific committee
    • Active participation in the programme meetings
    • External examiner for MBAs and PhDs
    • Internal examiner/moderator for MBA and PhDs
    • Consulting work (application of expertise)

    Social Responsiveness

    • Engage in community engagement initiatives, such as media comment, education, or activities benefiting specific communities.
    • Participate in awards, prizes, grants, or other acknowledgements that recognise service at any level.
    • Contribute to academic citizenship and demonstrate a commitment to sharing expertise with the community.
    • Involvement in professional activities.

    Minimum requirements

    • A PhD (NQF level 10) specializing in Marketing Management or related fields.
    • A minimum of five (5) years’ experience in teaching at postgraduate level (preferably at a business school).
    • Proven facilitation experience in marketing management.
    • A minimum of five (5) years’ Industry-related experience.
    • A record of research supervision and publishing articles in accredited academic journals.

    ADDED ADVANTAGES & PREFERENCES:

    • Proficiency in designing and executing executive education programmes or customised training initiatives for industry clients.
    •  Practical experience in conducting research commissioned by industry clients.
    • International research or teaching experience or exposure to international academic environments.

    KEY FUNCTIONAL/TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES:

    • Computer literacy in MS Office (Word, Excel and PowerPoint), email and internet.
    • Clear evidence of strength in teaching and learning in a blended environment and research and innovation activity.
    • Knowledge of modern platforms (e.g. whiteboard technology, eFundi, etc.) to enhance the ongoing changing of the learning and collaboration environment.
    • Excellent problem-solving skills.
    • Demonstrated a high standard of interpersonal and communication skills including the ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a multi-disciplinary environment.

    KEY BEHAVIOURAL COMPETENCIES:

    • Have excellent people and conflict resolution skills.
    • Can apply time management and work independently (on their own and without supervision).
    • Must be able to work well in a group.
    • Demonstrate initiative and leadership in research and teaching and learning.
    • The ability to maintain effective and constructive interpersonal relationships, as well as to motivate and persuade others to be effective, efficient, achieve agreed goals timely, behave harmoniously, and become or remain interdependent.
    • A clear vision, effective, clear, and timely two-way communication, strong results, and people orientation, instilling trust, driving diversity, transformation, and ethics, and managing conflict proactively.
    • A high level of professional and ethical conduct.
    • Good planning and organising skills as well as good report writing skills.
    • Effective time-management skills.
