Associate Professor/Senior Lecturer: Machine Design at Stellenbosch University

Duties/Pligte        

• Performing research in die field of advanced manufacturing processes, machine design and / or mechanics.
• Teach at undergraduate and postgraduate levels in the areas of manufacturing processes, machine design and / or mechanics.

Job Requirements/Pos Vereistes        

For Associate Professor:

• A relevant doctoral degree plus at least five years' applicable practical, teaching and/or research experience.
• An ECSA accredited BEng or BSc(Eng) degree in Mechanical or Mechatronic Engineering, or an equivalent qualification recognised by ECSA for registration as professional engineer.
• Registration as a Professional Engineer by ECSA.
• Proven academic and/or industry related management skills at senior level.
• A strong, applicable research record, including successful postgraduate supervision and publication record, or strong industry Research and Development record.
• Sound communication and teaching skills.
• Proficient in English with the ability to function effectively in a multi-lingual environment.
• Good interpersonal and organisational skills.

For Senior Lecturer:

• A relevant doctoral degree, plus at least three years' applicable practical, teaching and/or research experience, or an applicable master's degree in engineering with at least eight  years' applicable technical or management experience in industry.
• An ECSA accredited BEng or BSc(Eng) degree in Mechanical or Mechatronic Engineering or an equivalent qualification recognised by ECSA for registration as professional engineer.
• Sound communication and teaching skills.
• Proficient in English with the ability to function effectively in a multi-lingual environment.

Recommendation/Aanbeveling        

• A proven record of experience as engineer in heavy industry (for example foundry, steel production, automotive component manufacturing) with a background in strengths of materials and machine design.
• An established research record in the field of advanced manufacturing processes, machine design and / or mechanics and fundraising in these areas.
• Evaluation by the NRF as a rated researcher.

For Senior Lecturer:

• Registration as a Professional Engineer by ECSA.
• Proven academic and/or industry related management skills at senior level.
• A strong, applicable research record, including successful postgraduate supervision and publication record, or strong industry Research and Development record.
