Back End Developer at Sensor Networks

Responsibilities:

• Develop a high-level understanding of the platform architecture, its complexities and limitations.
• Take responsibility for and proactively address issues with legacy systems while they are manageable
• Enforce high code-quality standards through code reviews
• Mentor and develop the backend team through whiteboarding, continuous feedback and setting a good example
• Consistently push out clean, production-grade code
• Work with PM to spec out and plan features and their implementations
• Work with the QA team to ensure new features are thoroughly tested and regressions minimized
• Confidently handle code deployments, monitoring, debugging and rollbacks.
• Maintain a well-documented client API for frontend, mobile and external partners

Skills:

• Node.js (advanced, good understanding of low-level behaviour)
• Experience with Flow or Typescript; or 4 years professional experience with a strongly typed language
• Microservices (advanced solid understanding of distributed architectures and their associated challenges)
• Linux (intermediate comfortable using the command-line and working knowledge of bash)
• MongoDB (working knowledge, comfortable securely administrating a cluster)
• Containerization (working knowledge of Docker and Kubernetes)
• Cloud Computing (comfortable working in a cloud-based environment e.g. GCP, Azure, AWS)
• Elasticsearch (working knowledge, solid understanding of its role within a stack i.e. What data? What shape?)
• Good understanding of design and architectural patterns in software
• Experience managing substantial technical debt and maintaining a medium-to-large codebase
• Experience with CI/CD and TDD workflows
• Leadership experience, and proven ability to work autonomously
