    Business Analyst (Digital)

    Bizmod Consulting is looking for senior, cross-functional and experienced Business Analyst candidates for a contract position in a corporate, telecommunications environment. The Snr BA will be required to have experience in the telecommunications space, as well as Digital environments. Minimum 5+ years’ relevant experience is imperative. 

    CLIENT: MTN

    INITIAL CONTRACT: Start 1 February 2021 for 6 to 11 months – extension to be reviewed towards the end of the initial contract

    REQUIREMENTS:

    • Minimum 5+ years’ Business Analysis experience
    • At least 3+ years BA experience in a telecommunication setting
    • Knowledge and experience in the Digital space
    • Good presenter with facilitation and negotiation skills
    • Able to run JAD and facilitation sessions
    • Able to seek out information from stakeholders both in a business and technical environment without assistance

    EDUCATION & TRAINING:

    • Core degree in an appropriate discipline from a recognised institution
    • Member of an appropriate professional institution
    • Process qualifications (e.g. six sigma), or agile qualifications will be an added advantage

    DESCRIPTION:

    • The Business Analyst works in a particular business area, and is responsible for the successful delivery, end to end, that could have work-streams in many business areas. 
    • The Business Analyst is accountable to the Senior Business Analyst for the successful delivery of the Project Objectives within the analysis area.
    • The Projects under the Business Analyst’s scope will often be part of a wider Programme. In these cases, whilst the Business Analyst formally reports to the Senior Business Analyst for the duration of the contract, s/he will have a ‘dotted line’ reporting relationship to the Programme Manager, who owns the BU area of responsibility.
    • The Business Analysts will have an explicit objective for skills transfer, and measurable targets for the support of MTN’s own development of a business analysis capability.

    RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Perform Business Analysis on the assigned part of the value stream in line with the MTN SA Business Analysis methodology
    • Review and understand system functionality impacting / supporting the assigned part of the value stream. Input into identifying ways to fine tune systems in line with changing work practices
    • Partner with business, interacting independently to define future business requirements, identify opportunities for optimisation, and develop and propose solutions based on an understanding of the broader business context and the various architecture domains
    • Determine, document, and review user requirements for projects within the scope of the assigned part of the value stream or impacting processes and systems within the assigned part of the value stream
    • Determine a set of approaches for business analysis, considering financial justification, global trends and strategic alignment
    • Select the appropriate approach to business analysis activities and prepare a plan to support execution
    • Lead the analysis/solution life-cycle, including identification of business needs/requirements, identification and assessment, elaboration of solutions, feasibility assessment and input into business case development; functional specification and translation into a working solution; acceptance testing, management of change requirements and provide training input.
    • Give substantive input to linked disciplines (e.g. systems development, project and programme management, change management)
    • Review technical specifications to ensure user and functional requirements are met
    • Design, analyse and document workflow and make appropriate recommendations that will positively impact operational effectiveness
    • Support Business Architecture process, by analysing current processes and procedures within the assigned part of the value stream and providing input to opportunities of improvement
    • Prepare formal business processes
    • Identify and maximise opportunities to use information and technology to improve product, service and business processes
    • Identify Business Improvement and Optimisation opportunities within the assigned part of the value stream that will result in improvement of process performance and ultimately in MTN SA results

    DELIVERABLES:

    The Business Analyst will produce (or manage the production of), support the approval of and (where appropriate) maintain the following:

    • Requirements Specification Document (RDS) or User Stories & IRS – The Business Analyst will be responsible for developing the requirements specification document for the project, feature or programme. This includes breaking down requirements into user stories, and delivering in an agile fashion, dependent on the way the project/feature runs. This includes the data IRS document which outlines the reporting requirements.
    • Traceability Matrix – Creating and maintaining a traceability matrix for any piece of work that he/she will be delivering.
    • Privacy Impact Assessment – Where data is involved, and there is a medium to high data impact, the Business Analyst will be required to build these requirements into the RDS or deliver them in a separate document.
    • UAT Test Cases – When delivering the RDS, the BA is responsible for writing and creating the UAT test cases for the piece of work in question.
    • Project / Feature Narrative – Where the project / feature does not require a business case but a narrative, then the BA will be required to assist business in the writing of that narrative to determine benefits for the project.
    • Stakeholder Engagement Plan – A list of all the Key Stakeholders and the results of their initial engagement. Will sometimes be developed and managed at programme level, if the project is part of a programme.
    • Communication and Training material – To design training and communication material to support the project manager in developing a project communications and training plan. Often liaising with the training department in addressing and delivering material.

    The Business Analyst will have demonstrable experience in the majority of the following areas:

    • Engagement at senior and general manager level in large enterprises or telco’s
    • Capturing and understanding stakeholder needs, desires, and expectations and being able to convert this into a readable and excellent requirements document
    • Mapping the people, process, technology and data impacts of the change from the as-is to the to-be
    • Working closely with Programme Managers, work stream Managers and stakeholders in identifying and managing dependencies.
    • Working in Agile and scoping and delivering the required work in an agile fashion.
    • Ensuring adherence to the defined project delivery processes for the organisation.
    • Planning, organizing and facilitating general manager level workshops for scoping and planning, and to solve complex problems (using problem-solving techniques like brainstorming, mind-mapping etc.).
    • Deployment of best business analysis practices and suggesting improvements in the organisation’s defined project management approach.
    • Establishing and maintaining processes to assure the quality of the deliverables.
    • IT-enabled business transformation
