    Business Line Leader: Capacity Strengthening (One Year Renewable Contract)

    The incumbent will be expected to:

    Drive the sustainability of the Capacity Systems business line, including managing current and potentially new clients/partners both within SA and the Anglophone African region; Embedding CLEAR-AA within the University by providing academic leadership, research as well as seeking out areas of collaboration with other centres/departments within the University; Develop and maintain high functioning networks and partnerships across the African continent, globally and with other multilateral organisations, governments, universities, think tanks/M&E centres of excellence, international civil society, and other CLEAR Global centres; Design, deploy and manage training programmes as well as develop new methods for strengthening evaluative thinking in public sector and civil society programmes; Overseeing staff, research associates and consultants, in the production of the centre’s Monitoring and Evaluation, Research and Learning (MERL) products and services and the associated project management required to deliver on this.   

    At least 30% of the incumbent’s time will be expected to contribute academically to CLEAR-AA’s research agenda by producing two DHET peer reviewed journal articles per annum, supervise one masters or Ph.D. student as well as provide teaching on various CLEAR-AA and/or Wits M&E electives.

    Requirements:

    • The successful candidate will have: Five years of experience in evaluations, or M&E, experience should include a combination of technical work (particularly in project formulation, design, implementation, evaluation and monitoring) and academic work (inclusive of supervision of students, teaching and production of publications. 
    • A Master’s degree in the social sciences, humanities or relevant discipline; sufficient experience in managing the delivery of capacity strengthening programs aimed at adult learners; knowledge of and experience in relevant pedagogical/andragogical approaches in post-qualification; a track record of managing the delivery of a  combination of different types of capacity strengthening interventions. A post-graduate qualification in M&E.
    • Experience in conducting evaluations (design, programme, implementation, impact or meta-evaluation) would be an advantage Experience in designing and conducting M&E training programmes.
    • Experience in Evaluation Capacity Development
    • Experience in the delivery of blended and online capacity strengthening interventions would be especially advantageous.

    Skills and Competencies:

    • Computer literacy essential, excellent interpersonal skills, excellent ability to express self in writing and verbally (fluency in English), personal integrity, professionalism.  
    • Specific experience in public sector or civil society M&E systems. Project management experience. Prior experience in leading and managing teams will be an advantage. 
    • Strong stakeholder engagement skills

    The following would be an added advantage:

    • PhD (in social sciences, humanities or related disciplines)
