    Business Producer

    Key Deliverables

    News Planning & Editorial Coordination

    • Contribute proactively to daily and forward editorial planning for business and financial news across television and digital platforms.
    • Monitor local, national and international business, financial and economic developments to identify relevant and newsworthy stories.
    • Collaborate with editors, reporters, anchors and relevant newsroom teams to determine priorities and develop appropriate coverage.
    • Identify breaking news, emerging trends and significant business developments and ensure appropriate editorial resources are allocated.
    • Contribute relevant story ideas to diary meetings, editorial planning sessions and forward-looking content calendars.
    • Ensure business news coverage is aligned with the organisation’s editorial strategy and the information needs of its target audiences.
    • Adapt editorial priorities appropriately in response to developing stories, breaking news and significant market or economic events.

    Business Content Production & Story Development

    • Research, develop, write and produce accurate, balanced and compelling business and financial news stories for television and digital platforms.
    • Translate complex business, financial and economic information into clear and accessible content appropriate for the intended audience and platform.
    • Develop appropriate story angles, interview opportunities and supporting content to strengthen business news coverage.
    • Coordinate with reporters and correspondents to develop live crossings, packages, interviews, breaking news coverage and digital-first content.
    • Write clear and well-researched scripts that align accurately with approved visuals, graphics, interviews and other production elements.
    • Ensure appropriate visuals, graphics, multimedia and supporting material are integrated to enhance storytelling across platforms.
    • Ensure all content is produced with due regard to applicable legislation, regulations, ethical journalism requirements and editorial standards.

    Live Broadcast & Studio Management

    • Support the effective coordination and delivery of live business news broadcasts and programmes.
    • Coordinate guest requirements, including contact information, connectivity details, backup arrangements and relevant briefing information.
    • Prepare and coordinate production requirements including IFBs, communication details, sponsorship elements, programme towers and approved technical requirements.
    • Coordinate with anchors, reporters, producers and technical teams to ensure all required production elements are available before transmission.
    • Monitor live broadcasts and respond promptly to editorial and production changes.
    • Ensure last-minute developments and breaking news updates are communicated accurately and implemented efficiently.
    • Escalate operational, editorial or technical issues promptly to the appropriate senior editorial or production personnel.

    Television Production & Editorial Delivery

    • Monitor incoming agency material, external feeds and other relevant sources to identify content suitable for business news coverage.
    • Ensure scripts, video, graphics, interviews and other production elements are delivered accurately and within required deadlines.
    • Complete and verify applicable broadcast checklists before transmission.
    • Communicate editorial changes and production requirements clearly and timeously to relevant production teams.
    • Support the coordination of live business coverage during breaking news and significant economic or financial events.
    • Ensure programme content remains aligned with the approved rundown and editorial priorities.
    • Maintain effective coordination between editorial and production teams to support seamless programme delivery.

    Digital Content Coordination

    • Ensure relevant television business stories are appropriately adapted and prepared for digital publication.
    • Collaborate with Digital Editors and Producers to prioritise business breaking news and developing stories for digital audiences.
    • Monitor digital platforms to identify opportunities to update and extend business stories as developments occur.
    • Support reporters in meeting digital publishing requirements and adapting content for digital formats.
    • Identify business and financial stories suitable for social-first and digital-native treatment.
    • Coordinate the timely delivery of appropriate video, images, interviews and other multimedia assets for digital and social platforms.
    • Ensure significant business developments are communicated promptly to Digital and Social Media teams for coordinated multi-platform coverage.

    Editorial Standards, Accuracy & Compliance

    • Ensure business and financial content is accurate, balanced, fair, appropriately sourced and supported by credible information.
    • Conduct appropriate verification and fact-checking before content is broadcast or published.
    • Exercise sound editorial judgement when reporting on sensitive financial, commercial, regulatory or corporate matters.
    • Escalate potential legal, regulatory, ethical or editorial concerns to the appropriate senior editorial personnel before publication or broadcast.
    • Maintain compliance with organisational editorial policies, newsroom procedures and applicable legislation and regulations governing journalism.
    • Ensure appropriate attribution and sourcing of information, particularly where material relates to financial markets, companies, public institutions or third parties.
    • Maintain professional journalistic standards when dealing with confidential, commercially sensitive or potentially market-sensitive information.

    Stakeholder Collaboration & Relationships

    • Maintain effective working relationships with newsroom, production, technical, digital, social media and graphics teams to support integrated content delivery.
    • Collaborate with reporters, anchors, editors and producers to develop accurate and compelling business news coverage.
    • Maintain professional relationships with business leaders, economists, analysts, industry experts and other credible sources.
    • Coordinate effectively with Digital and Social Media teams to maximise the reach and relevance of business content across platforms.
    • Communicate editorial requirements, changes and deadlines clearly and timeously to relevant stakeholders.
    • Provide constructive input during editorial and production discussions to improve story development and programme delivery.
    • Represent the organisation professionally when engaging with external sources, experts, industry stakeholders and media contacts.

    Personal Development

    • Maintain and implement an Individual Development Plan aligned with the requirements of the Business Producer role and organisational objectives.
    • Participate actively in formal and informal learning and development initiatives that strengthen business journalism, financial reporting, editorial and production capabilities.
    • Maintain current knowledge of local and international business, financial, economic and industry developments relevant to the role.
    • Develop and maintain knowledge of emerging digital, broadcast and multiplatform storytelling tools and techniques.

    Requirements

    Minimum Requirements

    Qualifications

    • National Senior Certificate -NQF Level 4 - Essential 
    • Advanced Diploma - Broadcast / Journalism / Financial Journalism - NQF Level 6 - Essential 
    • Bachelor's Degree (3 years - 360 credits) - Broadcast / Journalism - NQF Level 7 - Recommended 

    Experience

    • Broadcast / Journalism / Producing - Operational - 3 Years - Essential 

    Competencies

    • Driver's License: Code EB; Articulated motor vehicle licence - Essential 

    Technology Proficiency

    • Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) - Basic
    • Dalet - Basic 

    Language Proficiency
