Cargo Worker - OR Tambo at Ellahi Consulting

Main purpose of the Job:

• To handle the movement of both inbound and outbound cargo in line with the standard operating processes (SOPs) and the operational guidelines of our partner airlines.

Duties:

Customer Service

• Ensure that all clients are informed of the cargo process in a clear and concise manner.
• Comply with the client's specifications so that their cargo is placed on the correct route.
• When on duty, maintain a friendly and positive attitude towards all the clients and colleagues.

Handling of Cargo

• Meet and greet the customer from the ramp and assist with offloading their cargo.
• Verify weight, dimensions and commodity against the Airwaybill presented by the account holder/customer.
• Assist the walk-in / cash customer to complete the cash form to ensure that it is completed correctly with customer information, weight, dimensions, commodity and routing.
• Direct the customer to the acceptance area once all has been verified.
• Ensure that the customer affixes the tracking labels onto the shipment correctly, then liaise with security personnel for screening of cargo.
• Remove cargo off the x-ray belt once screening is completed to prepare for segregation.
• Communicate with the Cargo Handler- Manifesting in order to prepare for flight planning.
• Perform relevant scanning disciplines and load the trucks as directed by the Cargo Handler- Manifesting

Scanning of Cargo

• Adhere to all scanning disciplines in the assigned sphere of the operations by verifying and reconciling it against the previous scan phase to ensure correct information is transmitted to the customers and our airline manifesting staff.
• Utilise the systems generated scan discrepancy reports to reconcile the assigned scanning phase so that any irregularities can be recorded and assigned to staff for further investigation.
• Engage with the Cargo Handler Manifesting and/or Duty Manager for any discrepancies in order for all the information to be recorded and documented to ensure that closure is in line with customer and company expectations.
• Check equipment for serviceability
• Report unserviceable devices to ensure connectivity to the internet and log-in credential to prevent any delays during operational times.
• Check all the assigned unit load devices before the start of the operation for serviceability, by inspecting the cargo and panels for any damages, to ensure ease of loading at the aircraft in order to prevent any delays and/or safety incidents.
• Complete all assigned checklist with regards to warehouse equipment to evaluate operational readiness in order to manage any possible bottlenecks with the processing of cargo inside the warehouse.

Safe and secure Workplace

• Maintain a safe and secure working environment displaying your permit card and wearing Personal Protective Equipment/clothing at all times in order to conform to Occupational Health and Safety and Company protocols.
• Perform all duties with high degree of vigilance and attentiveness (safety and security) when processing cargo to avoid any potential risk that may hinder the operations.
• Report any defects to the Duty Manager in order for corrective action to be initiated that will reduce and/or eliminate any potential safety hazards.
