    Chassis Engineer

    Job Description and Responsibilities    

    • Responsibility for the integration, evaluation and release of chassis components for local projects, including Sub-Saharan Africa (SSA) requirements.
    • The resolution of design related problems on manufactured platforms (problem solve complex components).
    • Component systems include, but are not limited to braking, steering, suspension, wheels, tyres and fuel.
    • Supporting local, SSA and European supplier base with manufacturing and process improvement recommendations, thereby ensuring integrity of parts supplied.
    • Project management of components under your responsibility, ensuring that chassis components are timeously introduced into production within the specified time and cost parameters.
    • Preparing technical feasibility studies, cost analysis of components, systems and projects.
    • Creating and tracking development timing plans.
    • Evaluation and implementation of the VW Group design changes.
    • Maintenance of Technical Data Systems for chassis components.
    • Assist with line and quality problems, special investigations, etc.
    • Evaluation and implementation of Product cost optimisations.

    Education and Experience    

    • National Diploma / BTech / BSc Engineering (Mechanical / Mechatronics)
    • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in design and development of automotive components (Chassis) for volume production which should cover:
    • Testing of automotive components in real and simulated environments
    • Working with engineering data systems
    • Working cross-divisionally with Purchasing, Quality, Production, Logistics and Finance.

    Skills, Attributes & Other requirements    

    ESSENTIAL:

    • Knowledge of modern Chassis components and systems, specifically braking, steering, suspension, wheels, tyres and fuel systems.
    • Complete vehicle evaluation or Chassis (brakes, wheels, tyres, etc.) component evaluation experience.
    • Knowledge of modern automotive production methods.
    • Knowledge of project management principles.
    • Understanding of basic financial principles.
    • Self-motivation, good time management, report writing and presentation ability.
    • The ability to conduct Technical Presentations.
    • The ability to work and communicate effectively with people at all levels.
    • MS Office computer literacy.
    • A working knowledge of the German language will be an advantage.
    • Code 08 Drivers Licence, high speed driving experience would be advantageous
