Minimum Required Qualification:

• Level 6: Diploma and Advanced Certificates National Diplomas and Advanced Certificates Physical, Mathematical, Computer and Life Sciences

The Appointee should:

• NQF 6 (Diploma or Advanced Certificate) in Analytical Chemistry.
• Recommended – Statistical Analysis of Data Short Course
• At least 5 years’ experience in a laboratory in an Analytical Chemistry environment
• Medically fit to work in the specific business area.
• Clear security screening record.
• Valid driver’s license (if applicable).

Advantageous Qualifications:

• Level 7: Bachelors Degree and Advanced Diplomas Bachelor Degree Physical, Mathematical, Computer and Life Sciences

Additional Requirements:

• Advantageous – a BTech in Analytical Chemistry or a relevant BSc Degree in Chemistry.

Key Responsibilities:

Sampling & Analysis  Enrolling teams in conversations related to optimisation and improvement.  Implementing analytical systems and processes aligned to standardised practices.  Reviewing analysis and evaluation of sampling results.  Ensuring and monitoring the calibration of advanced equipment and technology.  Monitoring and maintaining equipment condition.  Ensuring adherence and commitment to quality standards and procedures.  Reviewing samples prior to communicating results.  Auditing new sampling methods for all samples that are received by the section.  Coaching of staff on best practices and principles.  Recommending alternatives or opportunities for improvement related to analytical systems, proces
• Stakeholder Liaising  Engaging with key stakeholder related to analytical requirements and queries.  Liaising with stakeholders regarding the analysis and evaluation of samples for processing.  Providing on-going feedback to stakeholders regarding the completion of statistical and other calculations.  Recommending improvement initiatives based on statistical data.  Escalating unresolved queries and requests. Projects, Laboratory Instruments & Equipment  Leading continuous improvement projects.  Collecting and analysing data and information.  Developing and/or updating new and existing quality control procedures for the section.  Implementing controls and measurement systems within the section.  Conducting quality control of task execution for new and ongoing applications.  Development of new and reviewing of existing section standards and procedures.  Assisting with the implementing new instrumentation and equipment.  Monitoring and controlling effective utilisation of resources (e.g. instrumentation and equipment).  Conducting troubleshooting and problem-solving on instrumentation and equipment issues.  Inspecting and maintaining measurement, test and calibration equipment.  Assisting with the designing and developing methods and programmes for analysis  Calibrating and re-standardising instruments and equipment.  Monitoring and controlling the Metal Transfer Register.  Issuing external and internal waybills for material transfers.
