Chief Engineer Civil (Midrand /Cape Town /Durban) at Trans Africa Projects

Purpose of the Job: 

• Substation and Overhead Power Line Civil Designs including Earthwork designs. Also undertake access roads and architectural Design. Ability to undertake structural and civil engineering studies and implements solutions meeting client’s requirements. Proficient in Civil design software (Prokon, Model Maker and Road Maker) and draughting software (Autocad, Microstation). Draughting specifications for Geotechnical services and implementing findings in designs.

Key Performance Areas (KPA’s):

• Produce complex civil engineering design solutions (greenfield or brownfield) that details all the technical features, offering innovation and optimization whilst mitigating project design or execution risks. Develop Conceptual, Preliminary, and Detail designs whilst managing the approval process and client delivery expectations. Present at the design committees within the specified timelines to ensure on-time delivery of the final design.
• Manages project design within budget, schedule, and quality requirements. Consult clients on discipline-related issues which include their own designs or other designs. 
• Provide advisory services to clients on all design-related matters.
• Proficient in civil design software such as Prokon, Model Maker, Road Maker. Serve as Civil design technical professional and be able to Lead the civil engineering discipline by offering professional guidance through mentorship, project management, and business development support. Also, provide clients with consultative services.
• Responsible to identify business leads, and opportunities for work, to create Sourcing of Work.
• Become a brand ambassador by contributing to engineering innovation Identifying any internal process shortcomings and recommending corrective steps. Adjudication of tenders and management of sub-contractors.

Minimum Requirements: 

• BSC/BEng Engineering or B Tech in Civil Engineering. Professional registration with ECSA. Overhead Power Lines Design experience and high voltage substations.
• Other competencies and requirements: 5 years of technical experience in Transmission/Distribution for Engineers with BSc/BEng degrees and 7 years of experience for technicians/Technologists. Encourages an organizational culture that embodies TAP Values.
