Chief Environmental Health Practitioner (Health Care Waste Management)
Grade 12 Certificate and an appropriate degree in the field of Environmental Health with specialty in Waste Management. Three (3) years appropriate experience as an Environmental Health Practitioner after registration with the HPCSA.
Current registration with the HPCSA. Valid drivers’ license. Recommendations: Project management and computer skills; Presentation and negotiation skills; In-depth knowledge of appropriate legislations; Ability to Manage legislation and risk mitigation. Excellent Communication skills (written, verbal, presentation and liaison).
Duties :
To ensure effective technical tender specification and contract management. Conduct monitoring and evaluation at all health care facilities and service provider treatment plants, to facilitate legal compliance.
Ensure the development and implementation of HCW legislation, policies, and standard operating procedures. Facilitate appropriate research and information system and assist with the management and application thereof. Investigation of complaints from facilities and the public. Facilitate special HCW investigations. Identification and management of training needs and programs. Communicate to all role players about improved HCW management practices.
Assist in ensuring the minimization of HCRW through safe working environment as well as patient safety in all GDoH health establishments. Assist and participate in the co-ordination and management of Regional HCW fora meetings at Provincial and District levels.
Facilitate submission of Health Care Waste Management plans for all major Generators. Assist the program manager with generic administrative functions of the unit. Mentor, coach and manage sub-ordinates according to Departmental policies.
