Chief Safety Officer at Ivanhoe Mines

Suitable candidate must possess the following minimum qualifications and skills:

• Grade 12 or equivalent
• National Diploma in Safety / Risk Management or equivalent at NQF Level 6
• COMSOC 1 & 2
• SAMTRAC
• Audit Certification for ISO 9001, 14001 and ISO 45001
• Valid Medical certificate of Fitness
• Valid First Aid Certificate
• Proficient in MS Office [Word, Excel]
• Valid EB driver's license

Suitable candidate must have the following work experience:

• At least 3 years as a Safety or Risk Officer experience in a similar role in mining
• Understanding of contractor management in a mining environment
• Auditing protocols for contractor management
• Basic knowledge of relevant safety principles and systems
• Hazard identifications skills
• Analytical with sound attention to detail
• Objective, with strong logical reasoning skills
• Observant and perceptive
• Performance and achievement driven.
• Emotionally mature
• Assertive and independent
• Sound interpersonal and verbal and written communication skills
• Problem solving mind-set with ability to make recommendation.
• Sound knowledge of Rand Mutual Assurance processes and related employees’ compensation companies

Your successful candidate will be responsible for, but not be limited to: 

• Effective cost control through efficient risk management practices
• Effective self and team management in alignment with Ivanplats values and leadership initiatives
• Effective stakeholder engagement to ensure smooth workflows.
• Effective implementation, monitoring and reporting of all contractors related safety processes.
• Conduct accurate, timely legal audits of contractors’ onboarding and operational files.
• Conduct monthly contractors’ meetings.
• Effective and efficient risk management of employees under your responsibility.
