    Chief Systems Architect

    Job Overview

    The Chief Systems Architect takes overall responsibility for VASTech's product architecture and its development to ensure that VASTech remains sustainable and resilient to change. He/she ensures that VASTech's product architecture is optimally suited to customer needs by considering current and future technologies and the implications of migrating between them. The Chief Systems Architect is also responsible for the creation and implementation of architectural frameworks and standards. 

    Duties and responsibility include the following, but not limited to:


    • Through collaboration, define overarching VASTech Product System Architecture within which development teams can do more detailed design and implementation
    • The Product “Auditor” to ensure development activities conform of with architecture guidelines / standards
    • Define architectural and design standards and ensuring adherence to these standards
    • Ensure interfaces (API’s) between the various sub-systems of the larger VASTech product system are clear and well defined
    • Explore new technologies, techniques and innovations that will enhance and grow the VASTech product portfolio
    • Perform technical vetting of suppliers and 3rd party solutions as and when required
    • Liaise with stakeholders on a regular basis and find out what kind of solutions are required to current and future business problems and challenges
    • Ensure interfaces to other areas are clear and well defined. This applies to both physical interfaces to other systems, and human interfaces to other areas.
    • One of your primary tasks will be to communicate with all the stakeholders. Only by communicating will you understand the goals, constraints and requirements and will you persuade others to adopt and maintain the right, high-quality, consistent solution.
    • Ensure that the Product System Architecture is comprehensively documented/modelled and that this model is maintained and usable for all relevant stakeholders

    Technical Expert/ Specialist

    • Keep up to date and understand the greater VASTech product portfolio in detail
    • Definition, implementation, and execution of the processes for the definition, maintenance, and conformance to the Product System Architecture
    • Work closely with systems architects
    • Provide technical support to sales team (pre-sales)
    • Architectural leadership in the resolutions of inter-program and inter-project issues (inter-team dependencies)
    • Ongoing publicity and communication of the Product System Architecture both with relevant stakeholders and departments within the company
    • Ongoing research and assessment of new analysis approaches for potential use within the Enterprise
    • Focus on quality work, but measure quality by the strength and usefulness of the deliverables, not adherence to a document-heavy process

    Architect Forum

    • Leadership position of the Architecture forum (forum of System Architects from various VASTech subsystems, which is tasked with debating architectural issues and making fundamental decisions affecting the Product Architecture)
    • Know the stakeholders, and understand their goals, their needs, and the constraints these may place on the solution
    • Seek active participation from all the stakeholders
    • Ensure appropriate communications for different audiences, matched to their skills, goals and needs
    • Promote and instil ‘best-practice’ behaviour in software architecture
    • Approve architecture reviews and proposals

    Strategy development

    • Influencing business strategy
    • Direct input in the creation and maintenance of the larger product roadmap
    • Understanding technology product and vendor strategies, products, and customer preferences
    • Being viewed as the trusted advisor to the organization
    • Plan for change. Understand the likely directions of change, by looking forwards using techniques such as "scenario analysis" and looking backwards at previous changes


    • Focus on quality work, but measure quality by the strength and usefulness of the deliverables, not adherence to a document-heavy process
    • Design the Product System Architecture to support testing: ensure the system is controllable, so that tests can be performed easily, and observable, so that tests can be verified

    Qualification & experience required

    • Min:  B. Engineering or Computer Science Degree
    • Ideal: Master’s Degree in Engineering or Computer Science with software architecture certification
    • 10+ Years Research, Software Engineering, Roadmaps, Architect, Analytics
