Grade 12 certificate or equivalent qualification on NQF level 4 and BSC (CMP) or equivalent and currently registered with the Health Professional Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as a medical Clinical Associate.
Duties :
To obtain full patient history and conduct physical examination. Formulate differential diagnoses. Order and interpret basic diagnostic tests (e.g. blood tests, urine tests, X-rays with supervision) in accordance with his or her level of education, training, and experience. Perform various procedures such as venepuncture and IV cannulation, suturing, incision and drainage.
Plastering and splinting, basic airway management. Basic life support and assisting with advanced life support. Lumber puncture. Initiate treatment plans for common conditions.
Prescribing medicines for common and important conditions according to the primary health care level Essential Drug List (ELD) and up to schedule IV, expect in emergencies when appropriate drugs of higher schedules may be prescribed. Prescribing limited medications as per their formulary under supervision. Monitor patients progress.
Assist in chronic disease management. Act as a first or second assistant in theatre procedures. Perform minor surgical tasks under supervision. Make appropriate admissions, discharges and referrals.
