    Clinical Pharmacist

    MAIN PURPOSE OF JOB

    • To lead an expert patient-oriented pharmaceutical care service that promotes the appropriate use of medicines in the hospital  

    KEY RESPONSIBILITY AREAS

    • Provide Clinical Pharmacy Services to the hospital
    • Initiate and implement the Antimicrobial Stewardship Programme and enhance the appropriate utilisation of antimicrobials
    • Provide information related to pharmaceutical utilisation, trends, strategies and medication to the hospital
    • Mitigate and support the management of pharmaceutical risks in the hospital
    • Ensure accurate dispensing where applicable

    REQUIRED EDUCATION

    • ESSENTIAL EDUCATION: MPharm or relevant postgraduate degree
    • DESIRED EDUCATION: Antimicrobial Stewardship course, Infection Prevention and Control related course

    REQUIRED EXPERIENCE

    • ESSENTIAL MINIMUM EXPERIENCE: 2 years’ experience as a Ward or Clinical Pharmacist
    • DESIRED EXPERIENCE: Experience in managing an Antimicrobial Stewardship Programme

    REQUIRED JOB SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE

    • Antimicrobial stewardship processes and procedures
    • Ethical pharmaceuticals
    • Knowledge of the pharmacy and related healthcare industry
    • Relevant Pharmacy legislation (e.g. Pharmacy Act; Good pharmacy practice; Medicine Control Act 101 of 1965)
    • Development of pharmaceutical guidelines and protocols
    • Knowledge of quality improvement methodologies
    • Surgical pharmaceuticals
    • Develop patient treatment plans
    • Knowledge and experience working with relevant pharmacy systems (e.g. UNISOLV; AS400)
    • Computer literate (Microsoft Office)
