    Commercial & Retail Analytics Lead (Western Cape)

    Description

    • We are looking for a Commercial & Retail Analytics Lead to lead delivery, quality and enablement across PEP’s commercial and retail analytics portfolio.
    • This role supports Cellular, PAXI, PEPmoney and eCommerce analytics. The focus is to ensure that analysts deliver trusted, standardised and commercially relevant insights that support better business decision-making, improved performance visibility and stronger execution across key business areas.
    • This is a senior player-coach role, responsible for improving delivery quality, managing priorities, supporting data engineering delivery, coaching analysts, and building confidence in commercial and retail analytics.

    KEY RESPONSIBILITIES 

    Lead analytics delivery across Cellular, PAXI, PEPmoney and eCommerce.

    • Manage priorities, delivery rhythms, workplans and escalations across analysts and allocated data engineering support.
    • Review key outputs to ensure analysis, dashboards, reports and executive packs are accurate, reconciled and decision-ready.
    • Build consistent standards for KPI definitions, reporting logic, QA checks, reconciliations and dashboard outputs.
    • Coach and develop analysts to improve technical quality, commercial judgement and stakeholder confidence.
    • Support business stakeholders with insights linked to operating profit growth, transaction volume, product performance and revenue from data-led initiatives.
    • Partner with Heads of Department, Product Owners, Finance, Marketing, Sales / Operations and senior stakeholders to ensure insights are clear, useful and business relevant.

    Requirements

    Education and Experience

    • Business degree with Analytical/Commercial subjects (e.g.Computer Sc., Maths, Eng.)
    • 6–8 years’ experience in data analytics or a related data-driven role.
    • 2+ years’ experience leading, coaching, mentoring or managing analysts.
    • Experience managing analytics delivery across multiple stakeholders, business areas or product portfolios.
    • Experience working with data engineering or technology teams to deliver data assets, reporting layers or analytics enablement.
    • Retail, FMCG, telco, financial services, eCommerce, logistics or customer analytics experience are advantageous.

    Technical Skills

    • Strong understanding of data extraction, transformation and analytical table creation.
    • Strong data quality, reconciliation and QA capability.
    • Ability to define, review and standardise KPI definitions, metric logic and reporting rules.
    • Dashboarding and visualisation experience, preferably Looker Studio.
    • Ability to review analyst outputs for accuracy, consistency, commercial relevance and decision-readiness.
    • Ability to translate business requirements into data and analytics requirements.
    • Understanding of data privacy, governance and POPIA principles.

    • Strong people leadership, coaching and mentoring ability.
    • Confident communicator who can simplify complex data into business language.
    • Strong stakeholder management across business and technical teams.
    • Structured thinker with strong prioritisation and delivery discipline.
    • Commercially curious and able to connect analytics to business decisions.
    • High attention to detail and commitment to quality.
    • Resilient, proactive, accountable and supportive.
