    Community Support / Advocacy Officer

    Purpose of the position:

    • Community Support Advocacy Officer role will focus on establishing and maintaining partnerships with the CSS Small Grant CBOs and FBOs, local coordinating forum on health and or AIDS; and representing the AYP programme at those fora. This role is also ideally placed to manage and update the sub-district-based services directory for easy service plan referrals and report on the Human Rights Violations

    Minimum Requirements    

    • Social sciences degree, public health preferable
    • Minimum 2 years’ experience in lobbying/support/human rights or programming in the public health or HIV field
    • Experience in establishing partnerships within a CSS Small grant CBOs and FBOs
    • Experience in AYP health, social and legal rights
    • Experience in harm reduction and AYP programming beneficial
    • Experience in conducting training
    • Computer proficiency in MS Office
    • Ability to travel as and when required
    • Clear criminal record

    Duties and Responsibilities    

    • Establishing, maintaining and supporting the rights and needs of AYP in selected district
    • Playing a key role in the networking and engagement with district stakeholders such as clinics, SAPS and DSD.
    • Conduct sensitisation training to stakeholders per quarter.
    • Participate in regular meetings with programme team to discuss progress and address challenges to continuously improve engagement
    • Ensure linkages to the district AYP networks are made within the district
    • Identify gaps of services for AYP and strategies with the programme team to ensure they are filled
    • Ensure the implementation of the operational plan
    • Engage with and build the capacity of the AYP network in the district
    • Recruitment of beneficiaries at all entry points (Schools, Safe Spaces, Communities, TVETS, etc.)
    • Complete the NACOSA enrolment, risk assessment and service plan forms with the AYP
    • Identify AYP hotspots for mobilisation
    • Return to Core risk assessment to be done with enrolled AYP’s every six months
    • Provide HIV, Tuberculosis, Sexual Reproductive Health (SRH) and Gender-based Violence (GBV) information to beneficiaries
    • Refer all sexually active AYPs for HIV testing to Miet Africa every six months
    • Educate AYPs on risk reduction and prevention interventions and record accordingly
    • Conduct outreach activities including male and female condom demonstrations and provide current and accurate health information to AYPs regarding PrEP & other services
    • Assist with recreational, educational and economic strengthening workshops
    • Monitor the activities of the peer educators
    • Support on identifying AYP in need of further psychosocial support
    • Capturing the beneficiaries onto biometric system is mandatory.
