Job Summary


Provision of legal advice and support for all of the operations of The Walt Disney Company Africa and providing day-to-day strategic and commercial advice to the business. Ensuring compliance of all the businesses with local laws and regulatory requirements and internal company compliance policies.

As the local lawyer for Africa the role will be the first point of contact for the head of Africa and primary provider of advice and transactional support for most of the businesses and functions and for certain businesses and specialised areas of law will work closely with and support other members of DMED and CPGP EMEA lawyers (primarily based in London and Paris)

Responsibilities:

The Opportunity & Responsibilities:

• Legal support to the following businesses and functions
  • Theatrical distribution and marketing;
  • Cross business Marketing, Ad Sales, Promotions and Events;
  • Business operations and infrastructure e.g. corporate, environmental and health and safety.
• Provide legal support for Media Distribution (Affiliate Sales, Content Distribution and DTC Distribution) working in close coordination with the central Media Distribution Team
• Providing legal support for Media Networks and Disney Streaming Services in the roll out of Disney+ across the countries Africa working closely in conjunction with the legal group for DSS.
• Regulatory compliance across all businesses e.g. competition and consumer law compliance across all Disney websites and Disney Streaming Services
• Local compliance and operational matters for Disney Streaming Services
• Human resources and employment law
• Drafting, negotiating and review of agreements, such as programming acquisition agreements, advertising sales agreements, marketing agreements, etc.
• Provide legal support for any local productions working in close coordination with the central Production Legal team
• Support the Sports team in respect of any sport events and initiatives across Africa such as WAFU in coordination with the central sport team;
• Working closely with the regional laws who provide legal support for Consumer Products, Games and Publishing

Working closely with the following groups that provide direct support to the businesses

• Privacy
• Tax
• Real Estate
• Enterprise technology

Basic Qualifications:

The Experience We Require From You:
 

• Qualified as a member of the South African Bar (board of attorneys)
• LLB or Degree
• Proven experience in similar level role
• Television and/or digital media distribution and media experience
• Some experience of DTC/digital/OTT services preferable, ideally with an understanding of data privacy and consumer marketing concerns
• Ability to draft from scratch to address new and challenging issues
• Good organisational skills with the ability to prioritise tasks and manage a portfolio of contracts
• Understanding of different contractual types and structures.

• Methodical and meticulous.
• Communication of legal matters to non-legal audience.
