Data Analytics Engineer - Cape Town at Juru Holdings

Job Purpose:

As a Data Analytics Engineer, you will play a key role in creating data-driven solutions and providing advanced analytical insights. Your responsibilities will include data pipeline development, data modeling, performance monitoring, and integrating systems to address business needs. Effective communication with project and operational leadership will be essential, along with a keen understanding of data management solutions and the strategic value of information within an organization. You will collaborate with various stakeholders, leveraging your technical expertise to deliver solutions built on a hybrid of technologies.

Main Responsibilities:

• Define a structured approach to problem-solving and deliver against it.
• Assist and advise in planning and managing the workload of the team.
• Collaborate with data engineers and data modelers to design, implement, and manage the data pipeline for availability in the information layer.
• Create and automate reports for a large user base across our branch network.
• Identify, design, and implement internal process improvements, including automating manual processes and optimizing data delivery and scalability.
• Monitor and fine-tune the data pipeline, reports, and information layer for optimal performance.
• Utilize modern development and modeling techniques and tools to implement BI and data management solutions, including data quality, metadata, and reference data.
• Engage with a wide range of technical stakeholders, including data scientists, data analysts, business analysts, other data engineers, and solutions architects.

Role Requirements:

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Statistics, Informatics, Information Systems, Engineering, or another quantitative field. A National Diploma in an Information Technology related discipline is preferred.

Work Experience:

• 2 - 5 years of relevant experience in a similar environment, working with the relevant tools and techniques.

Technical Knowledge and Experience:

The ideal candidate should have a strong understanding of data, data structures, and data sources, along with the following technical skills and experience:

• Technology stack: SQL, Python, Hadoop, SAP HANA, WhereScape, GIT, Bamboo.
• Application and data engineering background with a solid knowledge of SQL.
• Knowledge of database management system (DBMS) physical implementation, including tables, joins, and SQL querying.
• Experience in Database technologies (e.g., SAP HANA and Web IDE) or Hadoop components (HDFS, Hive, Spark, Oozie, and Impala) is preferred.
• Object-oriented/object functional scripting languages (e.g., Python, Java, Shell, or related).
• Knowledge and experience of structured data, such as entities, classes, hierarchies, relationships, and metadata.
• Strong Data Engineering background with a focus on staging high-quality data.
• Experience in data warehousing principles (e.g., Kimball and Data Vault).
• Experience in agile development.
• Ability to comply with and manage data assets under a strict governance framework.

Desirable/Preferred Skills:

• Data warehousing (Kimball and Data Vault patterns).
• Dimensional data modeling (e.g., OLAP and MDX experience).
• Solid background in SQL, Information Architecture, and ETL procedures.
• Experience with object-oriented/functional/scripting languages (e.g., Python, Unix Shell scripting, Java, Scala, etc.).
• Data Management technologies (e.g., Informatica Data Quality (IDQ
