- This role sits at the intersection of business intelligence, governance, systems integration, analytics delivery, and AI transformation. You’ll help turn information into decisions, AI into capability, and complexity into clarity.
- You’ll lead the charge in shaping how Montego uses data as a strategic asset — while ensuring our analytics ecosystem remains governed, scalable, commercially relevant, and actually useful to the humans making decisions.

What You’ll Be Owning
Data Strategy & Governance
You’ll define and drive Montego’s long-term Data & Analytics Strategy, ensuring it aligns with operational priorities, business growth, and our AI transformation roadmap.
You’ll:
- Establish and govern enterprise-wide Data Governance practices
- Drive data quality, stewardship, classification, lineage, and access controls
- Ensure POPIA compliance across all data activities
- Chair cross-functional Data Governance forums
- Maintain structured metadata and data dictionary practices
- Lead response management for data incidents, governance breaches, and integration failures
Business Intelligence & Analytics Delivery
You’ll oversee Montego’s BI ecosystem — ensuring reports don’t just exist… they drive action.
You’ll:
- Govern the Power BI environment, standards, access, and reporting structures
- Manage the analytics delivery pipeline from intake to published insight
- Oversee executive, operational, and analytical reporting across the business
- Leverage AI tools like Copilot and Claude to accelerate analytics capability
- Ensure analytical outputs are accurate, relevant, and actively adopted
- Establish quality assurance and validation standards across reporting and analytics
Data Integration & Business Systems Intelligence
- You’ll act as the strategic bridge between business systems and the analytics layer.
That means:
- Governing how data flows between systems like Dynamics 365, HubSpot, Repsly, Sage 300, and our analytics environment
- Defining integration, extraction, and transformation requirements
- Ensuring data structures are analytically usable
- Partnering closely with the IT Business Applications function
- Maintaining oversight of data quality, consistency, and integrity across systems
AI Leadership & Adoption Enablement
- AI adoption at Montego is not a “future initiative.” It’s already happening.
- Help the business move faster — responsibly, strategically, and without unnecessary bureaucracy.
You’ll:
- Lead and champion AI adoption across the organisation
- Drive AI enablement alongside the AI Transformation Lead
- Define and execute the AI adoption roadmap
- Model AI-native behaviour personally
- Sponsor AI initiatives visibly across leadership structures
- Create governance guardrails that enable progress rather than block it
Leadership & Team Management
You’ll lead a growing capability area and help shape the culture around it.
You’ll:
- Manage and develop the Data Platform Manager and AI Transformation Lead
- Build a culture of accountability, curiosity, and continuous improvement
- Establish AI literacy as a baseline team expectation
- Participate in hiring and capability development
- Live and reinforce Montego’s culture and values daily
Prioritisation & Delivery Governance
Not every request can be “urgent.” You’ll help the business understand what matters most — and why.
You’ll:
- Operate a structured intake and prioritisation process
- Maintain transparent delivery pipelines and stakeholder communication
- Participate in digital steering and prioritisation forums
- Manage delivery risk and escalate blockers proactively
- Ensure commitments are either met or responsibly renegotiated
Requirements
What You’ll Need
Must Haves:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, Data Science, Business Informatics, or equivalent (NQF 7)
- 8–10 years’ relevant experience in Data, BI, Analytics, or Governance environments
- 3–5 years in a senior leadership role with direct people management responsibility
Strong experience in:
- Enterprise Data Governance
- Business Intelligence Delivery
- Data Integration & Analytics Design
- Stakeholder Engagement
- Cross-functional leadership
- Demonstrated practical use of AI tools
- Valid Code B Driver’s Licence
Bonus Points For
- Honours, MBA, or equivalent postgraduate qualification
- Microsoft Power BI Certifications
- DAMA CDMP or equivalent Data Governance certification
- POPIA / Data Privacy certifications or coursework
- Azure Data Services certifications
- Experience in FMCG, manufacturing, agribusiness, or complex operational environments
