Design Room Assistant - Cape Town at Truworths

Key Responsibilities    
TECHNICAL KNOWLEDGE

• Able to accurately cut fabric for the first sample from the brief and pattern, assembles and places in the bag for the Sample Machinist when required
• Resolves any fabric, pattern etc. issues and queries within the set deadlines
• Displays good knowledge of fabrics and patterns to ensure accuracy when cutting and makes recommendations when necessary
• Assists the Pattern Makers to cut out patterns effectively and efficiently when required
• Accurately irons all sample garments to spec and raises any quality issues to the Pattern Maker or QA Technologist or Line Manager immediately
• Effectively and efficiently adds all unsewn trim e.g. cords etc. to the sample garments and ensures that all the labels have been added correctly and according to the brief
• Ensures garments are fit ready for QA before handing over to Merchandisers by doing spot measuring of key points
• Manager and/or Patternmaker to approve sample before handing over to Merchandiser

Pillar 2: GENERAL ADMINISTRATION

• Manage the booking-in of cutwork for sewing, and accurately captures daily work completed and handed over to Merchandisers
• Information on the workload tracker must be accurate and credible
• Ensure that daily urgent styles, marked as priority by the Manager, are tracked and completed within the same day
• Responsible for archiving Fit and PP Seals in an efficient and logical manner
• Retrieving Fit samples when required
• Logs HR leave requests for sample room staff that do not have access to a computer
• Ensures that all necessary usables are ordered for the sample room (needles, guides etc.)
• Ensures that sample room area are kept in a orderly state : boxes of charity samples booked out, PP sample archive kept in order, old patterns and paperwork returned to patternmakers or discarded

Qualifications and Experience    

• 3 - 5 years experience working in a sample room and having the required skills as outlined in the Job Description
