    Desktop Researcher

    The BAP seeks to appoint a Desktop researcher to assist the Genomics committee, a sub-committee of the BAP.

    The incumbent will provide research support to the Genomics committee, tasked primarily with the following responsibilities:

    Research Support:

    • Undertake desktop research on the current state and scope of the regulation of genomics in South Africa
    • Undertake a comparative study of the regulation of genomics in comparable jurisdictions
    • Collate, organise, verify and analyse relevant research information
    • Liaise with relevant government departments, tertiary institutions and other professional bodies or organisations in the collection of information
    • Present research findings in a fully referenced, complete report to the BAP via the Chairperson
    • Undertake any other research-related duties as directed by the Chairperson of the BAP

    Core Requirements:

    • Master’s degree in law and/or ethics, with specialisation in the regulation of medicine and/or biotechnology
    • 3 years relevant experience as a researcher or post-doctoral fellow or
    • Other relevant demonstrated experience in drafting concept notes, commissioned research, research papers and research proposals
    • High level of proficiency in computer software (MS Word, Excel)
    • Excellent written skills in English and strong communication skills
    • Ability to work without any supervision

    Advantageous:

    • A relevant postgraduate qualification
