DevOps Specialist at Old Mutual

Purpose of the Job    

The  Dev Ops Specialist reports to the Manager IT Operations and Support and is  responsible for managing and automating code releases and making sure compliance is adhered to and the release process is seamless, in collaboration with software developers, testing and IT staff.

Critical objectives and responsibilities:

Responsible for managing and automating code releases.

• Establish, implement and manage the methods of deployment (development, testing and production), the processes and tools required to execute those deployments.
• Create failure management processes and tools so outages can be handled without causing loss of delivery.
• Execute and support production and non-production environments to ensure stability and uptime- Continuous Integration (CI)/Continuous deployment (CD) automation & orchestration, technology containerization, source control management, timely investigation and resolution of deployment and development-based problems.
• Maintain programming languages, scripts and processes.
• Implement roadmap, risk & control and regulatory functionality, including development, testing and deployment.
• Manage daily operations pertaining to the stability of deployed applications.
• Automate parts of the development process using scripts and other appropriate scripts.
• Advise on new technologies and methodologies by becoming an expert in emerging technologies and tools.
• Direct and/or participate in all phases of risk management assessments and software/hardware development with emphasis on analysis of user requirements, test design, and test tools selection.
• Manage software development tools used by the development team and ensure they are scalable and failure proof.
• Perform application decommission tasks, including business data transfer to archive systems.

Service delivery to ensure customer satisfaction

• Maintain service, quality and desired outputs within a specific functional process through ensuring compliance to tactical policies, procedures and standards.
• Establish productive operational relationships with key stakeholders in the various channels and administrative teams.
• Develop work routines in line with operational plans / schedules in order to manage achievement of service delivery goals.
• Share knowledge on, and participate in the creation of new standards, control systems and procedures to maintain service delivery.

Ensure cost efficiency through financial and corporate governance

• Contribute to the development and implementation of fit for purpose budgets.
• Manage supplier relationships, and budgets associated with projects.

 Manage quality people practices

• Align own behaviour with the organisation culture and values.
• Share and transfer product, process and systems knowledge to colleagues and team members.
• Collaborate and work with the business to deliver required service levels.
• Actively share information with other team members regarding successes, issues, trends and ideas.

Experience, knowledge & skills required   

• Relevant Information Technology Diploma/Degree. 
• Testing certification
• 3- 5 years’ experience in IT or dev Ops environment.
• Relevant IT certification (COBIT,ITIL) advantageous.
