    Diamond Analyst

    Job Description

    • The purpose of the Diamond Analyst is to conduct technical analysis on DBCM production and/or mining samples using various technical equipment in their processes. Practical judgement based on knowledge and experience is used to draw conclusions.

    Key Responsibilities include:

    • Assess and classify diamonds based on a sound knowledge of diamond morphology, crystallography, color, surface texture/feature, resorption, diamond types and inclusions – according to Group requirements.
    • Classify diamond parcels and samples, based on comprehensive knowledge of all diamond characteristics outlined above.
    • Select and extract required specimens for research and test work according to specified requirements.
    • Assess raw data for basic analysis and comparison based on sound knowledge of diamonds, diamond processes and Diamond Value Management.
    • Extract diamond samples for test work and research based on set requirements.
    • Assess production (+10.8¢) for stone reconstructions based on a sound knowledge of diamond morphology, crystallography, color, surface texture/feature, resorption, diamond types and inclusions.
    • Provide accurate classification of Type II diamonds based on DBSSSA requirements.
    • Work effectively with other departments in to achieve business objectives.
    • Communicate actively and openly within team members as well as with internal and external stakeholders.
    • Ensure that all tasks are performed in a safe manner and according to organisational SHE standards.

    Qualifications

    • Grade 12 with post level studies in the technical or laboratory field, preferably with microscope.

    Role-specific knowledge and experience:

    • Relevant diamond industry experience in the field of valuation or geology laboratory work with a microscope and spectrometer
    • Digital camera experience
    • Computer literacy with menu AS400 and basic Microsoft suite
    • In depth knowledge of diamond morphology/crystallography, resorption, surface features, inclusions, i.e., all physical properties of diamond
    • In depth knowledge of how diamond reacts to Plant and other processes – Diamond Value Management
    • Data collection (production and non-production data like observations, near hits)
