Director: Software Engineering at Salt South Africa

About the Role

• We’re recruiting on behalf of a global medical technology organisation seeking a Director of Engineering (Integration & Product Engineering). This leader will oversee multi‑disciplinary engineering teams across Web, Mobile, Backend Integration, and Quality Engineering, while working closely with Architecture, Platform, Data, and Product.
• The role focuses on scalable software design, high‑quality engineering output, data‑driven product development, and robust cybersecurity practices.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead, mentor, and grow engineering teams; manage performance, productivity, and recruitment.
• Own backend and integration architecture across mobile and web platforms.
• Ensure high-quality code, testing, debugging, and system performance.
• Drive sprint delivery, SDLC optimisation, and data‑led product decisions.
• Act as Technical Product Owner for B2C/B2B systems.
• Oversee cybersecurity remediation, CI/CD, and regulatory compliance (ISO, CE, FDA, SOC2).
• Standardise documentation and ensure technical accuracy and audit readiness.

Requirements

• 15+ years software engineering experience; 5+ years in team/tech leadership.
• BEng/BSc in Computer Science or similar (Scrum Master certification advantageous).
• Strong experience with consumer‑facing applications, integration design, SQL/NoSQL, ETL/OLAP, and SDLC processes.
• Cybersecurity experience (SOC2/HiTrust).
• Excellent analytical, troubleshooting, and people‑leadership skills.
