- To deliver innovative treatments to our patients, we are looking for a Medical Director to contribute to our Ophthalmology department.
Disease Area Medical Director Ophthalmology is a VACC model leader, coaching local medical teams to drive local organizational readiness for pivotal data releases, ensuring high-quality input into medical/scientific planning, including local and regional data generation, catalyzing scientific collaborations and knowledge exchange/upcycling of activities in line with global strategy.
Your future Position, Scope and Impact
- Ensures alignment and communication with all relevant internal and external stakeholders when applicable on all matters related to planning medical activities
- Contributes to establishing and implementing appropriate policies and standards
- Partners with global Product Development Medical Affairs when needed to define data gaps along patients' journey, proactively and efficiently co-shaping Integrated Evidence Plan strategy to capture affiliates needs
- Collaborates with regulatory to identify options for acceleration of approvals by co-creation
- Acts as Medical expert, point of reference for data generation activities on specific therapeutic areas
Your Capabilities
- Establishing and maintaining reliable relationships with scientific advocacy organizations in the respective Disease Area
- Broad understanding of business context in the respective Disease Area, including access evidence requirements and external value/decision-making drivers
- Profound knowledge of the overall drug development process
You bring the following education and experiences
- You are a MD or MD/PhD in ophthalmology or, in another therapeutic area, complemented with extensive pharma industry experience in Ophthalmology, esp. Medical Retina field.
- Profound experience in pharmaceutical medicine, including data generation, medical communication, medical information, and pharmacovigilance
- MD with relevant clinical experience (patient care decision making) at the point of care and board-certified specialist in the respective disease area
- You have experience in partnering with therapeutic area experts and external organizations
- Experience in leadership roles for above country or global teams
- Development/medical affairs prelaunch and launch experience
- Surgical device experience is a plus

This role is open for location-agnostic working, which means that we can potentially offer a contract based on the location of the final candidate. (Basel timezone compatibility preferred)
