    EHS Manager

    What needs to be done?

    • Safety Culture: Promote a measurable safety culture where all employees believe a Zero Lost Time Injury and Occupational Illness rate is achievable.
    • Planning: Develop and maintain the annual KPI EHS Score Card for Howden South Africa to ensure that it is consistent with the annual Howden Global EHS Plan and that it sets challenging but realistic and measurable objectives for all Howden South Africa Sites.
    • External Certifications & Internal Audits: Obtain and maintain ISO 14001, ISO 45001 & ISO 50001 Certifications for all Howden South Africa manufacturing and site operations and to implement and maintain the internal auditing of the EHS performance of all manufacturing and site operations AFM.
    • Training: Develop and implement internal and external training for all levels of employees and, where appropriate, present such training to ensure that employees are able to work safely and in compliance with all applicable legislation and with Howden MEA, Howden Global policies and standards. 
    • Risk Assessment: Develop, implement and maintain a consistent and measurable risk assessment process throughout Howden South Africa, where safe work instructions are derived from risk assessments, to ensure that employees performing tasks are familiar with both the risk assessment and the safe work instruction and that all such documentation is clearly cross-referenced to any other relevant documentation and is readily available to those employees who need it.
    • Incident Analysis: Develop, implement, maintain and monitor procedures, consistent with the Howden Global and Howden MEA reporting requirements; to ensure that all Lost Time Incidents, Medical Incidents, all Recordable Incidents, Potentially Serious Incidents, Near Misses and Occupational Illnesses are investigated and analysed correctly and that Supervisors receive training in incident analysis.
    • Implementation of Corrective Actions:  Ensure that all corrective actions, particularly those arising from Lost Time Incidents, Medical Incidents, All Recordable Incidents, Potentially Serious Incidents, and Near Misses are implemented timeously by the parties responsible for the implementation, to eliminate or reduce as far as possible the chance of such incidents recurring. This to be tracked and monitored.
    • EHS Objectives: Responsible to ensure BU and Global annual EHS Objectives are achieved.
    • Accountable for the EHS for Howden South Africa and our customer sites to ensure we comply to legal, operationally and to Howden Internal procedures. Ensure that a presence is maintained on Site by the Operational Safety Officers.
    • Responsible for HR issues within the EHS department: i.e. (grievances, recruitment and motivation of staff).
    • Responsible for the EHS administration: Job observations and recording of safety requests/complaints/ near misses / Hazard Identification / VFLs and do investigation on all incidents. Report to Group EHS Manager on safety stats. That we can trend the stats and do corrective actions.
    • Accountable for the Howden South Africa Statutory safety meetings with the staff and customers to ensure we comply with all statutory requirements.
    • SOX Compliance: Adhere to Sarbanes Oxley and AX controls.

    What do you need to bring? 

    • 5-10 Year operational experience in the field of mechanical engineering and boilermaking environment.
    • National Diploma in Safety Management or higher.
    • Registered member of SACPCMP
    • Extensive EHS exposure in industrial / manufacturing environment
    • ISO14000 Environmental certified
    • ISO 45001 Health and Safety certified
    • ISO 50001 Energy certified
    • Proficient in MS Office Suite
    • NEBOSH Certificate
    • SAMTRAC certified
