    Electronics Technician

    • The Electronics Technician is responsible for the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of electronic systems used in mining operations, including Proximity Detection Systems (PDS), two-way radios, GPS units, and related communication and safety equipment. The role ensures optimal system performance, safety compliance, and minimal downtime.

    Key Responsibilities:
    Installation & Commissioning

    • Install and configure Proximity Detection Systems (PDS) on mining equipment
    • Install and set up two-way radio communication systems (VHF/UHF)
    • Install and configure GPS tracking systems on mobile and fixed assets
    • Conduct system testing and commissioning

    Maintenance & Repairs

    • Perform routine maintenance on electronic systems and equipment
    • Diagnose faults and carry out repairs on:
    • PDS systems
    • Radios and communication devices
    • GPS tracking units
    • Control modules and wiring systems
    • Replace faulty components and ensure proper calibration

    Troubleshooting & Diagnostics

    • Identify and resolve system faults using diagnostic tools and software
    • Conduct root cause analysis on recurring issues
    • Ensure minimal downtime through effective fault-finding

     System Monitoring & Support

    • Monitor system performance and reliability
    • Provide technical support to site personnel and operators
    • Assist with upgrades and system improvements

    Compliance & Safety

    • Ensure all systems comply with mining safety standards and regulations
    • Adhere to site safety procedures and PPE requirements
    • Maintain accurate service and maintenance records

     Reporting & Administration

    • Complete job cards, maintenance reports, and fault logs
    • Maintain inventory of spare parts and tools
    • Provide feedback on system performance and improvement opportunities

    Minimum Requirements
    Education:

    • National Diploma / N6 / Trade Test in:
    • Electronics Engineering
    • Electrical Engineering (Light Current preferred)

    Experience
    3–5 years experience in:

    • Mining or industrial environment
    • PDS systems (advantageous)
    • Two-way radios and communication systems
    • GPS tracking systems

    Technical Skills:

    • Strong fault-finding and diagnostic ability
    • Knowledge of:
    • RF systems (radio frequency)
    • Wiring and circuit diagrams
    • Electronic testing equipment (multimeters, oscilloscopes) Basic computer skills (reporting, system configuration)
