    Engineering Manager

    The ideal candidate will manage the engineering function at a large, complex and busy food manufacturing facility, and to be the GMR 2.1 appointee. Your role will involve strategizing, project management, part staff management. Your collaborative attitude and interpersonal skills will help you thrive as an Engineering Manager. 

     Key performance areas 

    • Manage, plan and coordinate all activities of the maintenance and engineering department with all other departments and functions. Ensure compliance of company H&S policies and procedures.
    • Assures that design of new and redesign and or modification of existing machines, equipment and manufacturing procedures are being satisfactorily performed.
    • Recommend replacements of existing equipment and provide long-range facility planning assistance.
    • Responsible for production liaison and engineering assistance for solutions to production engineering bottlenecks.
    • Provide engineering solutions to achieve the quality standards of the plant and manufacturing processes.
    • Provide technical training and technical direction to support personnel and supervisors within the plant.
    • Conduct managerial responsibilities concerning the hiring, training, counselling and discipline, performance appraisal, and assigning/prioritizing all work for subordinates.
    • Liaise with contractors to ensure safe and high quality work at low cost.
    • Oversee the purchasing of maintenance related items to ensure the correct stock levels of spare parts and consumables.

    Qualifications

    • Minimum diploma in mechanical or electrical engineering to at least T3 or N5 level. Degree level is preferred.
    • Must be sufficiently qualified to be appointed a the GMR 2.1, through either qualifications, experience or a combination of both, as outlined in the occupational health and safety act, 1993, as amended regulation 2 of general machinery regulations supervision of machinery.

    Experience & attributes

    • A minimum of 6 years’ experience in an FMCG environment (preferably food/beverage), including experience of managing the engineering team at a large, complex site.
    • Comprehensive understanding of industrial refrigerator and steam boilers.
    • Experience of managing budgets and controlling costs.
    • Experience of being a site GMR 2.1.
    • Stock control.
