    Environmental Health Practitioner

    Manage the rendering of the 09 key municipal health functions in terms of the National Health Act (Act 61 of 2003).

    • Water quality monitoring
    • Food control
    • Waste management
    • Health Surveillance of premises
    • Surveillance and prevention of communicable diseases
    • Vector Control
    • Environmental Pollution Control
    • Disposal of the dead
    • Chemical Safety
    • Perform Environmental Health Practitioner's duties to ensure Environmental Health Services are rendered in the whole of the District.
    • Perform emergency planning to prevent or manage disaster, by contributing to the planning of appropriate emergency measures with regard to environmental health control.
    • Conduct/facilitate Health and Hygiene Education sessions to create awareness amongst the members of the community to protect themselves against environmental deceases.
    • Perform any other related duties as instructed by supervisor

    Experience
    Skills

    • National Diploma or BTech/ BSc Degree in Environmental Health / Environmental Management / other related qualification;
    • Active membership of HPCSA;
    • Code EB Driver's Licence; and
    • Computer Literacy: MS Office
    • Peace Officer
    • Environmental Management Inspector 25 years in the related field of air quality management / climate change/sustainable energy and environmental/health/management.
    • Knowledge and Knowledge of all relevant Environmental Health legislations (National, Provincial, Local) including interpretation and application thereof; Full knowledge of communicable diseases, including signs, symptoms and how communicable diseases related to Environmental Health can be spread in communities;
    • Theories and principles for Health Promotion;
    • Project Management Principles;
    • Food hygiene control and auditing systems such as HACCAP; and Interpretation of laboratory results relating to food and water samples. Ability to work unsocial hours.
