    EPU Manager - Fitting

    Purpose of the Job:

    • To manage an EPU (Elementary Production Unit, comprising of various workstations).
    • To manage hierarchically shopfloor employees.
    • To animate the EPU Cross Functional Team (Quality, PME, SC) to ensure that the operators have all they need to reach the targets.
    • To manage the KPI’s within the rolling stock process, using the guiding principles defined in APSYS(Alstom Production Unit). Main KPI’s being Quality, Costs, Delivery, Safety, People development and continuous improvement position reports to Senior Production Manager.

    Responsibilities:

    • Ensure that the Targets (Quality, Cost, Delivery) are achieved in the area responsibility.
    • Train and develop people within the team
    • Maintain safety standards in the area of responsibility
    • Drive cost improvement initiatives through PDCA and continuous improvement practices
    • Maintain equipment standards (through TPM schedules)
    • Ensure lead time plan of the jobs in the area of responsibility is maintained
    • Maintain task sequencing and task allocation in the area of responsibility
    • Ensure all agreed production standards (APSYS) are maintained and adhered to in the area of responsibility

    Requirements

    • Grade 12
    • Minimum Red Seal Artisan in the relevant trade. In addition, at least 5 years manufacturing, supervisory experience. Preference will be given to candidates with supervisory experience in lean manufacturing environment.

    • Minimum Red Seal Artisan + N5 in the relevant trade. In addition, at least 3 years Product knowledge experience. Preference will be given to candidates with supervisory experience in lean manufacturing environment.

    Advantageous:

    • Must have successfully completed the equivalent of the EPU Manager training program and APSYS shopfloor management training.

    Desired Knowledge / Experience & Behaviour:

    • Must be able lead and motivate a group of approx. 20 people towards achieving a set of predefined targets
    • Must have a knowledge with labour-relations policies and procedures in the South African labour context
    • Must be able to communicate effectively at different levels with the organisation
    • Must display high levels of integrity, ethics and morals.
    • Must be extremely disciplined with time management
    • Must have a high regard for customer/ supplier relationships
    • Must be knowledgeable of best practice principles
    • Must be flexible to work outside of normal operational boundaries to support team targets
