Main Purpose of the Role:

The firm requires a modestly experienced individual to join our investment team to research companies listed on the JSE. The analyst will be a generalist with share coverage distributed across a broad range of sectors. The individual will assess valuation, prospects and quality of assigned companies on an ongoing basis.

Minimum Qualifications:     

• Relevant under-graduate (e.g. BCom, BA) or post-graduate degree (e.g. BCom (Hons), PGDA, BBusSc, B.Eng, MBA)
• Relevant professional qualification (e.g. CFA, CA) would be an advantage

Work Experience Required:           

• 3-5 years relevant working experience with a primary focus on equity researchEquity research experience across a broad range of sectors would be an advantage

Responsibilities:

The primary responsibility of the analyst will be to conduct research on companies listed on the JSE.

• Conduct proprietary, fundamental research on companies to understand their business history, participation in select industries, competitive positioning in those industries and financial characteristics of the company.
• Attend company visits to meet with management to gain a deeper knowledge of the company and its operating environment.
• Conduct research of competitor companies to enhance knowledge of the industry and the competitive behavior of the various role players.
• Build financial models for companies to provide financial forecasts
• Prepare insightful research reports and presentations for the broader investment team.
• Maintain coverage of companies by timeously updating our fundamental database and providing feedback on news flow.
• Prepare supporting materials for the client report backs and roadshows.
