    Executive Digital & IT: Applications Road Freight

    Job Outputs

    The purpose of this role is provide leadership, governance and management of core business applications, including 3rd party applications and interfaces or integration, that are enabling various business capabilities across the value chain of the designated business unit(s).

    The incumbent serves as business applications leader whose primary responsibility is to ensure that applications meet business needs cost-effectively and to oversee all activities that optimize the value, cost and risk of business applications . The incumbent will develop appropriate applications strategy for future-state business needs and manage the applications portfolio through the team of applications specialists that have specific responsibility for analysing business capability/process requirements, identifying or discovering application solutions ,building or configuring, deploying, supporting, maintaining or enhancing, and eventually decommissioning applications through their life cycle.

    Key performance areas and responsibilities of this role include:

    • Strategic alignment, Leadership and Management: The incumbent will oversee all activities that optimize the value, cost and risk of applications and develop and implement long-term applications strategy. Provide resources, effective leadership and take accountability for overall governance and performance of the function. Ensure effective operation and continuous improvement of the Applications Management function within Imperial’s business model.
    • Application Governance and Delivery: The incumbent primary responsibility is to ensure the Applications Management function cost effectively meet the needs of the business, efficiently delivering new applications solutions that meet business process requirements. Ensure support and maintenance of applications and related systems is to required business service levels and standards.
    • Costs ,Business Value, Budgeting and Administration: The incumbent will be responsible for the day-to-day management of the application organization (including staffing, budgeting and other relevant management functions) within the designated business unit or division and is required to hold all application delivery teams, including external service providers and 3rd parties, accountable for optimizing the cost, risk and value of applications throughout their life cycle. Constantly identify and exploit opportunities for reducing costs and amplifying business value.

    Qualifications required

    • BSc (Hons) Computer Science or BSc (Hons) Information Systems Technology or BCom (Hons) Informatics or other applicable equivalent qualification
    • Sound understanding of software engineering and software development life cycles coupled with Applications Management experience

    Skills and experience required:

    Must have:

    • Management experience
    • 10 to 15 years of IT and business/industry work
    • At least three years of leadership responsibility managing midsize to large teams and influencing senior-level management and key stakeholders
    • Experience in managing contracts and external IT service providers performance
    • Experience working in the logistics industry will be an advantage

    Technical competencies:

    The following experience is considered essential:

    • Managing at least a midsize team in application development, implementation or management.
    • Experience managing an organization primarily using agile development methodologies.
    • Experience transitioning an organization from traditional practices to agile development methodologies.
    • Software design/development, mobile applications, application architecture, project management, software as a service (SaaS), software integration, automated software testing, data management/governance, business intelligence, security and/or business process analysis.
    • Demonstrated leadership experience building cross-organizational consensus with exposure to technology providers and/or business clients.
    • Demonstrated experience managing a high-performing, cohesive team.
    • Demonstrated experience in liaising with middle and senior management
    • This is a sensitive role dealing with commercial risks and significant costs. The organization must have a high level of confidence in the integrity and track record of the individual appointed to this role
