    Facility Conveyor Engineer

    Responsible person will be required to lead all activities related to facility modification, relocation, upgrade and installation in cooperation with/and under the direction of the TCF VOME Facility Manager, aiming at the flawless execution of the project.

    Position Details:

    • Lead Projects Timely Execution with expected quality and in compliance with South Africa legal requirements, coordinate Projects, resources, equipment and information in line with project scope and definition.
    • Lead the weekend and major plant shut-down works of contractors, conduct safety interventions & control execution of the work, prepare validation plans for all project steps, ensure prior job commencement, Manage The Change is issued and approved by plant, as well as the validation plans
    • Liaise with contractors and internal customers to clarify and define project requirements, scope and objectives.
    • Prepare the Scope of Works for the TCF facility projects, raise in the system Requisition Requests, conduct suppliers technical evaluation, work with buyer to ensure Purchase Order raised on-time
    • Ensure engineering Safety Risk Assessment (SRA) review for all the equipment’s at Design/buy off and post installation commissioning.
    • Ensure all the suppliers working at site during installations follow all Ford safety standards and 100% compliance to necessary work permit.
    • Ensure corrective action plan and implementation for all the SRA/Safety Risk Assessment non compliance.
    • RFQ development: - Should interact with cross functional team (TCF process/MP&L/PD) to develop detailed RFQ for plant setup and identify capable suppliers for implementation.
    • Develop and track detailed time line for all the new/work in progress projects and escalate any delay that will affect vehicle build time line
    • Effectively participate in equipment design and buy off to ensure equipment’s are meeting RFQ requirements.
    • Ensure equipment buy off is completed with quality test procedures to ensure equipment’s are meeting necessary delivery & quality standards.
    • Identify local equipment manufacturers to deliver program within budget.
    • Develop clear training plan for self and for the maintenance technicians to ensure smooth
    • Work with production team to develop any small tool requirement that comes up during various pre build phases.
    • Understanding of FMEA process and ability to address issues before they occur
    • Feasibility assessment of fixture 3d models for new concepts
    • Project planning, status review and reporting and execution.
    • Ensuring compliance to safety policies and procedures
    • Feasibility review (layout, cycle time, repeatability, operation)
    • Review system layouts and determine areas that will require additional engineering, prepare the engineering suggestions
    • Run the engineering simulation of the conveyor systems, and decide if system requires correction & plan corrections required
    • Make drawing corrections / revisions as needed to meet the project requirements; incorporate the drawing changes in the existing plant layout; prepare future state layouts for the production lines engineer plans to modify/ install
    • Report drawing status to the VOME TCF Facility Manager as required maintaining the project schedule
    • Work with plant 3D layout in Autodesk Inventor, plan changes required in scope of his work, reflect on the 3D layout, ensure the 3D layout is updated after modifications done
    • Prepare project proposals, timeframes, schedule and budgets
    • Monitor and track project’s progress and handle any issues that arise but following BOB.
    • Act as the point of contact and communicate project status adequately to all participants.
    • Create and maintain comprehensive project documentation, plans and reports
    • Optimization of preventive maintenance jobs based on break down analysis and findings
    • Coordination of the design approvals, pre-acceptance, final inspection and buy off.
    • Creating 3D modeling, 2D detailed drawings and layouts, mechanical assemblies modifying existing designs, generating BOMs using 3D Autodesk Inventor and 2D AutoCAD by himself/coordinating contractor work.
    • Selecting material by calculating deflection of material under specific load, fatigue failure using engineering equations and verifying those calculations using Autodesk Inventor simulation software. When contractor is assigned for the project, coordination & check of the contractor work.
    • Calculating conveyor chain and belt speed, chain stress under specific torque, specify power required to run the systems, and selection of gear reducers, motors, sprockets, bearings, hydraulic and pneumatic equipment according the calculations, in case project is not assigned to contractor
    • Evaluating design ideas based on factors such as design-function relationships, manufacturability, serviceability, materials and methods engineering, application, installation, and methods of production.
    • Analyzing customer design, current standard specifications, and previous designs to determine feasibility of application.

     Performance Measures:

    • Meet project delivery deadline. On time completion
    • Meet customer requirements and satisfaction using BOB
    • Achieve buy off as per outlined objectives
    • Ensure project is within allocated budget
    • Ensure Project is on PM when Handing over to Production

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

    • Excellent knowledge of the conveyors types, components, benefits of different conveyors types, civil works and Filling and Glazing Equipment
    • Excellent knowledge of materials and components, international standards (e.g. steel grades, properties; bearings; motors, etc.)
    • Knowledge of the SANS Requirements applicable to the conveyor systems design, installation, as well as civil works required
    • Intermediate to advanced level application of conveying techniques such as metering, induction, sortation, AutoCAD and Autodesk Inventor, CATIA, simulation packages
    • Ability to read technical drawings, specifications, knowledge of the ISO drawing standards
    • Strong mechanical aptitude with the ability to analyze, diagnose and implement corrections to the equipment operation issues, and suggest design/process changes
    • Strong knowledge of the MS Word, Excel, Access, Visio, MS Project and Outlook
    • Control software and electrical wiring experience a plus

    Qualifications and Experience:

    • National diploma or degree in Mechanical Engineering
    • Professional Engineer, Professional Certified Engineer, or Professional Technologist certification with professional body will be a plus
    • Certified AutoCAD, Autodesk Inventor, CATIA user
    • Min 3 Years’ Experience in automated plant ant project management in the automation portfolio desirable
    • Previous experience in developing conveyor systems, modernization of the systems, cooperating with Project Managers for the delivery of projects
    • Experience on Installation and commissioning
    • Basic understanding of automation systems
