The Farm Manager is the lead for McCain’s Farm of the Future Africa. In addition to ensuring the commercial production of potatoes and of rotation crops, the manager will be responsible to conduct research, adopt new technologies and best management practices to improve the sustainability of crop production. Areas of expertise/activities include; regenerative agricultural practices, soil health management, biodiversity, digital technologies, IoT’s, precision agriculture and remote sensing technologies.The manager is also responsible for liaising with public and private research organizations, strategic partners linked with the execution of the Farms Strategic Framework and with employees, growers, customers and the public for the dissemination of information about the Farm activities and objectives.The manager is also responsible for managing the Farm budget, ensuring activities are executed flawlessly while staying on budget; work is planned and conducted under the guidance of the Farm of the Future management team.
AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY:
Establish profitable crop production on FotF Africa to secure financial sustainability
Execution of farm operations
Capex plan: Have farm machinery, yard/building and irrigation REA implement by end of F’23
Drive safety culture on site
Manage dissemination of agronomy technical information to emerging farmers, visitors and colleagues
Manage farm machinery maintenance and utilization
Manage annual farm budget and financial management
REQUIREMENTS:
BSc Agriculture with preference to (Honours or Masters in Agriculture)
Minimum 5 to 8 years of practical commercial potato/grain farming management experience.
Excellent knowledge and experience of crop production, farm management and agriculture sustainability challenges, with emphasis on potato and grain production as well as Knowledge of agriculture equipment and emerging agriculture technologies.
Track record of leading and executing innovative projects as a self-starter delivering measurable technical, operational and economic results
Proven capacity to adapt, keep focus and thrive in a dynamic environment
Possession of a valid driver’s license
Knowledge of Implementing new agricultural technology and biodiversity
Knowledge of machinery, robotics, artificial intelligence is an asset
Good written and verbal communication skills in English
Demonstrated strong interpersonal, problem solving and relationship building skills
