About the Job
As a Manager in the Restructuring Services team, you will have the opportunity to work on a diverse range of engagements across all sectors, with plenty of responsibility for leading workstreams, managing junior staff and supporting directors and partners in client-facing delivery.
The nature of work that you will get involved in may include:
1. Managing specific workstreams on financial restructuring engagements on a day to day basis with assistant director/ director oversight, including:
- Project managing parts of the engagement, providing support to the assistant director/ director (or often directly partner) in managing external stakeholders
- Supporting management teams in preparing and challenging business plans, short term cash flow forecasts and restructuring plans
- Developing, analysing and presenting restructuring options using input from other teams, e.g. insolvency or tax analysis,
- Liaising with the Company’s lawyers to understand key aspects of legal documentation and also drive any documentation processes (term sheets, waivers, loan documentation etc.)
- Managing small teams and creating effective delegation and development opportunities for individual team members
- Understanding and actively managing the Firm’s risk from take-on through to completion of engagements
2. Actively support business development activities using, building your own contact network and supporting director/ partner-led marketing and sales activities
- Participating in existing business development programmes and key client accounts
- Identify opportunities to expand jobs as well as opportunities to provide wider Deloitte services to existing clients
- Take responsibility for leading marketing initiatives aimed at specific channels to market, or events
3. Actively support practice and talent development
- Provide on-job coaching and development to staff
- Develop junior staff outside of jobs through appraising and mentoring
- Support wider RS training initiatives
- The team increasingly works on cross-border, multi-jurisdictional situations so it is likely that there will be opportunities to work on large and exciting cases in conjunction with colleagues in Deloitte member firms across Africa, Europe and potentially worldwide.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree
Qualified Chartered Accountant i.e CA(SA)
- 3 – 5 years’ experience in similar role (advantageous).
To qualify, you should have the following skills and experience:
- Financial restructuring experience gained either as an advisor within a professional services firm, consultancy or investment bank; as an analyst in a debt or special situations fund;
- An understanding of debt markets, banking, loan agreements and other relevant financial and legal documentation;
- Good understanding of the restructuring marketplace, its trends and key players (principals and advisors);
- A developing network of relevant contacts in the market;
- Very strong analytical skills, including: business analytics, business planning, short term cash flows, financing options. A basic understanding of insolvency legislation and practice is not a prerequisite but helpful;
- Excellent interpersonal skills;
- Strong project management skills;
- Ability to lead small teams and develop people;
- Commitment and willingness to work under pressure, sometimes long hours, always putting the client at the centre;
- Flexibility to transfer skills into complementary offerings such as Debt Advisory or Transaction Services (for example) if market conditions change;
- Ambition to learn and develop further;
- Ability to conduct business in fluent oral and written English is a pre-requisite.
