Job Description
Main Purpose of Job
To lead client engagements in the trading risk environment, including e.g. traded market risk, counterparty credit risks, etc. Such client engagements / projects may include current state assessments; model reviews and validations; solution / model design, build and implementation – both with respect to the bank’s management needs or regulatory requirements.
To lead the development and use of tools such as calculation engines and client solutions used for risk quantification and management in terms of the above risk types.
Administration and management of client engagements, as may be required from time to time, e.g., preparation of proposals, tracking of budgets, internal risk & independence processes, etc.
Willingness to travel internationally to support client engagements across e.g., UK, Europe, Middle East, Australia, subject to prevailing travel restrictions.
Qualifications
Qualifications & Experience required
You would need to have the following qualifications and experience:
CA (SA) or Degree/ Honours/ Masters in Quantitative Risk Management; Actuarial Science or Financial Mathematics (Compulsory)
Started or completed studies towards CFA, PRM or FRM for CAs and Financial Mathematics candidates (Preferable)
Work experience in the treasury or trading risk environment of a bank (Required)
Work experience with respect to the latest prudential (Basel) regulatory requirements in terms of trading risk (Preferable)
We are looking for skills and experience in any of the following areas (preferably 5-10 years of experience).
Market risk
Counterparty credit risk (CCR)
Credit valuation adjustment (CVA) risk
Fundamental review of the trading book (FRTB)
Standardised approach to CCR
Regulatory reporting
Modelling capabilities (e.g., Python, VBA, SAS, Matlab, C# etc.)
Trading / risk systems experience (e.g. Murex, FIS, Calypso, Algo, etc.)
Valuation of financial instruments
Front office, Middle office (e.g. product / valuation control) or Risk experience
Experience in risk measurement and analysis in terms of all standard risk metrics (sensitivities, stress, VaR and tail metrics).
Governance and controls, policies and procedure documentation.

Construct engagement teams with suitable talent, balancing correct levels and numbers and recruiting as necessary
Manages margins effectively through accurate budgeting, pricing and profitability management on engagements
Monitors that time and expenses to engagements are recorded and submitted weekly
Ensures billings are timeously done and collections followed up
(May) negotiate pricing for engagements to ensure profitability whilst maintaining client interests
What you’ll do / Specialized Competencies
You will be primarily responsible for execution on client engagements and growing the business.
The team:
Analyses regulatory and other developments within South Africa, Africa, the Middle East and key markets which have a strong influence on local regulatory developments such as the UK, EU and the USA.
Identifies clients and sectors impacted by the regulatory developments.
Develops tailored sector and client-specific solutions in response to opportunities identified and assists clients in executing on these.
Through the adoption of a strategic and forward-looking approach to the identification and analysis of emerging financial services regulations and trends, we help our clients understand trends and the changing regulations and the impact that this can have on their strategies and underlying business models. The team possess several regulatory experts, who focus on interacting with those individuals at our clients charged with accountability to manage their organisation’s response to changes in financial services environment and regulations.
