    Geology Manager - Trichardt

    Job Description

    The Geological Manager is responsible to lead, plan and organize specific activities in the short and medium term within the specific sites.

    • Recommends and incorporates cost saving initiatives into budgets and controls expenditure within approved parameters.
    • Responsible for capital, revenue and expense budgeting for Trichardt Geology Department. 
    • Ensure that Trichardt Geology Laboratory site have capable staff to ensure the work flow.
    • Responsible for effective and appropriate use of equipment and facilities.
    • Adhere to all quality and safety requirements of the SGS management system.
    • Perform any other reasonable task as assigned by direct line manager.
    • Keep abreast of new trends, current development and relevant research.
    • Adhere to our clients Health and Safety regulations and rules.
    • Manage personnel at the Trichardt Geology Laboratory.
    • Develop and execute operating plans, targets/budgets for such operations as per above   Perform relevant technical training to new/existing staff at Trichardt Geology Laboratory Perform monthly meetings with relevant supervisors.
    • Implement and upheld the ISO 17025.
    • Acquire, analyze, manage and interpret geological data.
    • Implements systems to monitor, update and publish resource models for use by stakeholders.
    • Carries out grade control in order to obtain targeted resource quality.
    • Initiates, monitors and controls short-term sectional projects to ensure attainment of desired results.
    • Identifies, coordinates and manages the implementation of and adherence to legal and corporate governance principles/requirements in area of responsibility.
    • Maintains an up-to-date functional database on geological information.
    • Identifies and liaises with key stakeholders to ensure achievement of business objectives          Ensure Compliance with customer and plant specifications.
    • Designing and developing proposals to both existing (mandate expansion) and new clients (market extension)
    • Generate quotations for prospecting clients.
    • Performing process audits and technical audits.
    • To measure the performance of all personnel.
    • Ensure development, maintenance and implementation of personnel and equipment.
    • To take disciplinary action against staff when not complying with rules and regulations.
    • Ensure the environment the people are working in is safe.
    • Cease the use of any equipment that may be deemed to constitute a safety hazard or enter hazardous environments without the necessary knowledge and protection and report the situation to higher authority to take action.
    • Cease to carry on with work that may affect the quality (integrity) of services and report the situation to higher authority to take action.
    • Initiate a formal improvement request when a deviation of the system occurs, possible improvements are identified or when nonconformity is identified.

    Qualifications

    • Minimum Grade 12 
    • A tertiary qualification in Geology/Chemistry
    • Computer literacy

    Additional Information

    • Minimum of 5 years applicable experience in the field of Geology 
    • Knowledgeable with washability and sink float analysis 
    • Knowledge in data evaluation. 
    • Knowledge in density based cleaning process 
    • Good report writing skills.
    • An analytical mind.
    • Attention to detail.
    • Great communication skills (oral and written)
    • Advanced knowledge of computer aided resource modelling and estimation techniques. 
    • Core handling, core sampling and knowledge of coal quality analyses. 
    • Previous supervisory experience would be recommended.
    • Client liaison is essential.
    • Good interpersonal and communication skills.
    • Knowledge and advice to provide advice to laboratory and operations.
    • Ability to problem solving
