Graduate Tailings Engineer at Golder Associates

Golder Associates is seeking two Graduate Tailings Engineers to join the Mine Waste Division in Midrand. This is a entry level position in the consulting team and is regarded as a professional person in the delivery of engineering design services in line with the Golder suite of tailings and mine waste engineering.

Key Duties And Responsibilities Include

• Junior engineer on services and projects within primarily within the mining waste applications.
• Assisting the tailings team in building a reputation as Engineering Consultants in tailings design and geotechnical services e.g. stability assessments, liner system designs, 3D modelling, producing drawings on AutoCad and other appropriate software packages such as Civil 3D and Muk 3D.
• Provide support to intermediate engineers and senior engineers on tailings designs.
• Assist in developing client relationships on a project-to-project basis through delivering tasks and projects on time to high standards and quality.
• Participate in the compilation of proposals.
• Participate in setting up of laboratory tests schedules, interpreting test results to feed into designs, interacting with laboratories to assure the correct tests and test procedures are followed.
• Keep abreast of advancing technologies, through attendance of Golder internal training courses and external training where appropriate.
• Participate in on-going training activities, including site visits as part of surveillance of tailings dams.
• Assist in planning, developing project schedules, coordinating and direct manpower on important engineering projects to meet completion deadlines including producing bill of quantities, TSF design capacity models.
• Compiling design drawings and contributes to reports for review by senior design members as the design assistant or designer.
• Provide safety leadership in identifying and alleviating/ eliminating high priority safety hazards.
• OH&S incident reporting.
• Other duties as required, which may include out of country site visits and site investigations (e.g. geotechnical).

Skills, Qualifications, and Experience:

• Master’s degree in Geotechnical Engineering. 0 – 2 Years’ experience post-graduation.
• Engineering design and / or geotechnical investigations experience (preferred). Exposure in design, site supervision and disposal of mine waste (preferred).
• Slope stability assessment, 3D modelling, producing drawings and sketches on AutoCAD (preferred).
• Modelling suite i.e. Civil 3D and Muk 3D (preferred).
• MS Word, MS Excel & MS PowerPoint.
• Own Vehicle
• Valid Driver's License
