Grocery Retail Operations Manager: Bloemfontein at FS Personnel Recruitment

• We are seeking an experienced Operations Manager to oversee the financial, commercial and operational performance of three retail stores across the Free State and Northern Cape.

Desired experience and qualifications:

• Minimum 5 years’ grocery retail experience, with multi‑store or regional management exposure.
• Proven track record in sales growth, profitability improvement, and operational transformation.
• Strong financial literacy with ability to interpret P&L, margin, labour, and stock reports.
• Hands‑on leader with credibility on the shop floor and the ability to challenge and coach Store Managers.
• Diploma/Degree in Retail or Business Management advantageous.
• Valid driver’s licence and willingness to travel regularly between stores.

Duties and Responsibilities will include:

• This is a hands-on leadership role focused on driving results, improving store performance and developing strong management teams.
• Strategy Execution – Convert company strategy into clear operating plans and measurable priorities.
• Multi‑Store Leadership – Drive consistent execution across all stores through structured visits, reviews, and operational discipline.
• Financial & Commercial Management – Own sales, gross profit, expenses, labour, waste, shrinkage, and profitability outcomes.
• Customer Proposition – Build a customer‑first culture, ensuring service, availability, and competitiveness.
• Retail Standards – Maintain exceptional standards in merchandising, pricing, promotions, and store readiness.
• Management Development – Lead and coach Store Managers, assess capability, and build a strong management pipeline.
• Fresh Foods Excellence – Ensure strong execution in Produce, Bakery, Butchery, and Deli.
• Compliance & Risk – Uphold legal, food safety, OHSA, labour, and audit requirements.
