    Group Lead: Safety

    Coca-Cola Beverages Africa (CCBA) presents an exciting opportunity for an experienced Group Lead: Safety, to join the Supply Chain CCBA department. This senior-level resource will lead the development, deployment, and continuous improvement of CCBA’s enterprise-wide (14 countries) safety strategy and management systems, ensuring a culture of safety, regulatory compliance, and operational excellence across all markets. The successful applicant will be reporting into the Group Head: Safety, Health, Environment & Quality.

    Key Duties & Responsibilities    

    • Design and implement CCBA’s safety strategy, policies, and frameworks aligned with global standards, business objectives, and operational risk profiles.
    • Ensure all markets operate within regulatory safety requirements, and establish governance structures to track, audit, and report on compliance performance.
    • Spearhead and drive development of a proactive safety culture by embedding behavioural safety practices, leadership accountability, and employee engagement programmes.
    • Define and track key safety KPIs (e.g. LTIFR, TRIR), ensuring timely analysis and reporting of incidents, near-misses, and compliance metrics.
    • Lead the enterprise approach to incident investigation, root cause analysis, and corrective action deployment to support learning and risk mitigation.
    • Develop safety capability across all levels through training programs, toolkits, coaching, and best practice sharing to uplift market maturity.
    • Deploy and maintain safety management systems (e.g., ISO 45001) and ensure harmonised ways of working across CCBA operations.
    • Collaborate with operations, logistics, HR, and SHEQ teams to integrate safety into business planning and ensure shared accountability across functions.

    Skills, Experience & Education    
    Qualifications:

    • Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field.
    • Certification in relevant standards such as NEBOSH, NOSA Lead Auditor, or SAMTRAC is highly beneficial.
    • Government Certificate of Competency (GCC) advantageous.

    Experience:

    • 10+ years of experience in leading health and safety functions, with at least 5 years in a senior, multi-site or multi-country role in manufacturing, logistics, or FMCG.
    • Proven track record in implementing and sustaining safety systems in complex, high-risk operational environments.
    • Background in incident investigation, audit preparation, and system implementation (e.g., ISO 45001) is essential.

    Skills:

    • Deep knowledge of safety legislation, global standards (e.g. ISO 45001), and risk management frameworks to shape enterprise-wide safety practices.
    • Strong analytical skills to lead investigations, identify underlying causes, and implement effective corrective and preventive actions.
    • Ability to design, deploy, and harmonise safety management systems, tools, and protocols across multiple operations and geographies.
    • Expertise in driving behaviour-based safety (BBS) and embedding a proactive safety mindset through leadership engagement and employee empowerment.
    • Skill in building market safety competencies through coaching, structured training programs, and continuous learning initiatives.
    • Strong communication and influencing skills to align operations, logistics, HR, and SHEQ teams around safety priorities and shared ownership.
