    Key Performance Output

    The successful candidate will be reporting to Group Executive Commercial and Business Development and will be responsible but not limited to the following:

    • Evaluate market opportunity for new routes taking into account pre-identified target markets, network strategy and analysis of competitive environment
    • Define the incentive policy guidelines for traffic development based on mandate and inputs received from EXCO and Board
    • Review and analyse research in order to identify new route development opportunities
    • Oversee the evaluation of business cases for proposed new routes and provide guidance on possible limitations and deterrents such as regulatory/political limitations or lack of Air Service
    • Agreements for the route
    • Work with Market Research and Analysis to finalise route characterization sheet (Route factsheet) to be used to establish preliminary contact with potential candidate airlines
    • Work with marketing to promote and drive route development by attending relevant global and regional route events and conferences
    • Ensure the goals and objectives of traffic development are aligned to the corporate strategy and plan
    • Conduct strategic identification of opportunities in partnership with other Business Development
    • Leads and Corporate Strategy office
    • Review and analyse all applicable political and regulatory frameworks, in order to determine the necessary course of action for the establishment of new routes or the modification of the existing configuration
    • Identify potential regulatory impediments and define action plan
    • Engage with the state administration and airlines in order to address regulatory impediments/barriers and identify possible solutions
    • Assess validity of existing Air Service Agreements and propose changes to existing Air Service
    • Agreements based on assessment of validity
    • Support the Air Service Agreements negotiation process and the preparation and signing of Air service agreement documents
    • Identify potential issues in the existing operational environment and capacity conditions at the airport/s: potential constraints, existing airlines and flight programs/schedules, existing capacity in terms of slots, time schedules and airport resources
    • Define required adaption/adjustment measures to be introduced, identify potential impact on affected third parties and define implementation plan
    • Perform final viability assessment of the implementation of the new route/s at the specific airport/s based on the potential adaption measures and the implementation plan
    • Ensure airline commitment obtained when verifying the feasibility of new routes
    • Write and sign new route/s agreement/s with airlines
    • Define the policy for event partnering incentive schemes / differentiated tariffs to support demand creation
    • Engage with route stakeholder for the specific purpose of demand creation in both target and local markets
    • Provide support to Airport General Managers in the relationship with the local bodies
    • Negotiate incentives schemes to drive demand
    • Identify the need for and establish route committees where required
    • Provide support to the State Administration during the negotiation of Air Service Agreements with other states
    • Engage and negotiate with airlines on the terms and conditions for the establishment of new routes and/or modifications to existing routes
    • Verify final viability of new route/s in partnership with airport operations and planning teams as well as airlines and service providers
    • Identify possible partnership opportunities with airlines to develop win-win strategies
    • Engage with Tourism Authorities, Department of Tourism, Chamber of Commerce and other State entities to partner for demand creation for the specific purpose of route development
    • Ensure that stakeholder engagements are aligned to ACSA Stakeholder policies
    • Establish and monitor healthy diverse internal and external relations and implement remedial actions where required, in the achievement of organisational goals
    • Analyse trends and identify competence training gaps and action
    • Conduct workforce planning to ensure function is suitably staffed to meet strategic functional objectives.
    • Implement and manage people development processes such as performance management succession planning and talent management to meet functional performance standards.
    • Agree and implement own and sub-ordinates development plans.
    • Accountable for functional performance, within the agreed strategic framework and approved plans.
    • Forecast learning requirements and pipelines related to legislative and industry changes.

    Technical Skills and Experience

    The following skills and experience or the equivalent of such will be required: 

    • Bachelor’s Degree Honours (3 years – 360 credits NQF 8) in Economics or Marketing is essential
    • Master’s degree (4 years – 480 credits NQF 9) in Economics or Marketing is recommended. 
    • 8 Years Business Management operational experience is essential. 
    • 4 Years Middle Management experience is essential.
    • Proficiency in SPSS and Airport IS/MIDT is recommended
