    Head Clinical Unit (Medical) Grade 1 - 2 Obstetrics and Gynaecology

    Requirements :

    • Senior/National Senior Certificate (Grade 12) and Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery plus MMed (O & G) or FCOG (SA). Registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as a Medical Specialist in Obstetrics and Gynaecology. Proof of current registration with the HPCSA from 01 April 2026 to 31 March 2027. A minimum of five (05) years appropriate experience as Medical Specialist registration with the HPCSA as a Medical Specialist in a normal Specialty after registration with Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA).
    • A Certificate in Reproductive Medicine (COG) (CMSA) with HPCSA registration as sub-specialist in Reproductive Medicine with a minimum of three (3) years’ experience as a subspecialist is an added advantage. Significant experience and interest in Reproductive Medicine and advanced Endoscopic surgery skills is a Requirement. The candidate should be able to demonstrate the following skills: problem solving ,decision making, strong leadership, sound communication.
    • Experience in teaching and learning, supervising undergraduate and postgraduate students. This is a joint appointment between the University of Pretoria (Faculty of Health Sciences, Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology) and Steve Biko Academic Hospital.

    Duties :

    • Render, organize and oversee inpatient and outpatient services in general gynecology, Reproductive Medicine, and complicated endoscopic surgery. Lead and coordinate the comprehensive and multidisciplinary pre-operative, intra-operative, and post-operative assessment, clinical management, and referral of women with reproductive health disorders and complex gynaecological conditions to ensure optimal patient outcomes. Ensure compliance with the policies and protocols and better use of resources.
    • This is an academic position including significant pre-and post-graduate teaching, training, and research duties. It is expected that the successful candidate will also participate in the academic activities of the Hospital and associated University. Commuted overtime is compulsory.
