    Head: Knowledge Management and Training

    About the Role:

    • The organisation has an exciting opportunity for a Head: Knowledge Management and Training. The successful candidate will provide strategic leadership in advancing the Research, Development and Innovation mandate through the implementation of effective Knowledge Management, Information and Library Services (KILS) policies, and training. The role will also oversee the day-to-day operations of the Learning Academy, ensuring continuous skills development and training support for investigators.

    • Knowledge management expertise: Implement systems, governance, and a sharing culture
    • Learning & development leadership: Drive training programmes and skills development
    • Change management: Lead adoption of new systems and ways of working
    • Stakeholder management: Influence and collaborate across all levels
    • Data-driven decision-making: Use insights to improve impact and performance
    • Governance & compliance: Ensure quality, risk management, and policy adherence
    • Communication: Strong facilitation and engagement skills
    • Digital capability & innovation: Leverage technology for learning and knowledge sharing
    • People leadership: Build and lead high-performing team

    Requirements:

    • A Master’s degree in Library, Knowledge Management and/or Information Management Sciences;
    • At least 10 years’ experience in libraries, information services or knowledge management environments;
    • Demonstrated leadership at a senior management level withinknowledge, information or library services;
    • Recognised expertise and exposure to national and/or international knowledge management trends;
    • Strong strategic, leadership and stakeholder management skills;
    • Proven ability to manage complex programmes and drive innovation.

    Key Responsibilities:
    Strategic Leadership & Knowledge Management

    • Develop and implement a comprehensive Knowledge and Information
    • Management Strategy aligned to organisational objectives.
    • Drive strategic initiatives that enhance knowledge sharing and organisational learning.
    • Engage executive leadership and stakeholders to ensure buy-in and effective implementation.
    • Manage financial and human resources within the function.
    • Build and lead a high-performing team.
    • Promote a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
    • Promote a culture of knowledge sharing across the organisation

    Information & Library Services Management

    • Establish and manage print and digital information resources, systems, and platforms
    • Oversee the preservation and accessibility of organisational knowledge assets
    • Ensure efficient and user-friendly knowledge repositories and library services.

    Records & Information Governance

    • Develop and implement policies, frameworks, and procedures for records and information management
    • Ensure compliance with relevant legislation and governance standards
    • Oversee records management, archiving, and digitisation processes

    Learning Academy & Training operations

    • Design and implement the Learning Academy framework in line with SAQA and SETA standards
    • Oversee the development of training programmes and learning pathways
    • Ensure alignment of training initiatives with organisational priorities
    • Manage day-to-day operations of the Learning Academy
    • Coordinate training schedules, facilitators, and learning materials
    • Ensure effective delivery of training programmes for investigators
    • Support continuous professional development of investigators
    • Monitor and evaluate the impact of training and knowledge initiatives
    • Produce reports on performance, outcomes, and return on investment
    • Integrate innovation and global best practices into knowledge management and training.
