MBChB or equivalent medical qualification. HPCSA recognised specialist qualification in Internal Medicine. Proof of registration with the HPCSA as a Specialist in Internal Medicine. HPCSA recognised qualification in Cardiology subspeciality.
A minimum of seven (7) years post-specialist clinical experience in Cardiology in an academic institution.
Demonstrated experience in clinical governance, multidisciplinary collaboration, and leadership roles. Evidence and experience of undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, training and supervision for the past five years.
Independent Research experience with publications in peer reviewed journals and academic contributions by participating local and/or international conferences as a presenter and or chair of the session would be an added advantage.
Strong leadership and strategic management skills. High-level clinical expertise and decision-making capability. Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary academic environment.
Excellent communication, conflict resolution and organisational skills. Commitment to transformation, teaching excellence, and service strengthening. Ethical leadership with alignment to Batho Pele principle.
Must have at least 3 years of management experience within the academic environment added advantage.
Duties :
Lead and manage the Cardiology Department, ensuring high standards of clinical care and patient safety. Oversee and participate in specialised clinical service delivery in Cardiology Department.
Support and strengthen the academic mission through undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, training, supervision, and curriculum development.
Drive research output, postgraduate completion rates, and departmental scholarly productivity including publications in accordance with Sefako Makgatho Health Sciences University School of Medicine.
Ensure compliance with HPCSA training requirements, institutional policies, and provincial health regulations. Lead departmental strategic planning, performance monitoring, service development, and quality improvement initiatives. Manage departmental budget, human resources, and operational efficiency.
Represent the department on institutional committees and provincial clinical forums. The successful incumbent will be required to perform commuted overtime in the Department of Cardiology.
