Head Of Clinical Department [Public Health Medicine]
Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery plus MMed (Public Health Medicine/Community Health) or FCPHM (SA). Registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as a Medical Specialist in Public Health Medicine with minimum of seven (7) years appropriate experience as a Medical Specialist in Public Health Medicine.
Extensive and appropriate experience in all aspects of Public Health Medicine- clinical care, teaching, and research.
Certificates of service for all periods of employment. Proven management ability, sound communication (verbal and written) skills, leadership skills, decision making and interpersonal skills. Proof of current registration with the HPCSA 2025/2026.
Duties :
The department of Public Health is based at Steve Biko Academic Hospital and affiliated with the University of Pretoria. This will be a joint academic post, full time, permanent position.
The role includes ensuring high-quality, evidence-based public health services; strengthening clinical governance and population-health programmes; improving health outcomes through effective prevention, surveillance, and health-systems interventions; and ensuring compliance with national policies and public health priorities.
The post involves leading and coordinating all teaching and training activities for undergraduate and postgraduate students in medicine and public health. The incumbent will also drive the departmental research agenda, support postgraduate research, and promote innovation in public health practice. Duties may include participation in after-hours service, or other institutional responsibilities as required.
